Last year, in a bold statement, UFC President Dana White branded boxing a broken business. In his opinion, given the politics that dominated boxing, it was a nightmare for anyone to try to fix the sport. Over a year after White’s debatable views, the current UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Tom Aspinall has now publicly stated he dislikes boxing.
Speaking to talkSPORT, the 30-year-old not only kept UFC above boxing but also ridiculed the wealthy boxing promoters who run and determine everything involving the sport. Likewise, despite his love for the sweet science, Aspinall, who sparred with Tyson Fury, mourned that boxing’s been reduced to become the promoter’s show.

Although Tom Aspinall considers himself a huge admirer of the sport, the British mixed martial artist feels professional boxing deserves scolding. Despite his love for the technical aspect of boxing, the 30-year-old thinks the sport is currently functioning terribly. In his opinion, unlike the UFC where all the fighters have a fair shot at winning, in boxing, one could easily tell who would win before even two boxers stepped inside the ring.
“I don’t mean to say anything bad about boxing, but a lot of them fights, you know who is going to win and who is going to lose before they step in there. The UFC, it’s 50/50 from the get-go,” Aspinall told talkSPORT.
“Everyone in there is there to win, and you can see that. You can see that in their eyes staring across. You’ve got some massive, scary guy looking back at you. It separates the men from the boys, that,” he added. Gradually, the 30-year-old jabbed the promoters who run the shows and are responsible, in his opinion, for the downturn of people’s interest in boxing.

UFC champion fires his shots at Frank Warren and Eddie Hearn
Speaking to talkSPORT, Aspinall expressed he loves watching “traditional boxers” and “classic” matches since they are different from the matches that contemporary boxing produces for the fans. And while on the same topic, he bemoaned that it was possible to predict winners just given the promoters who stood behind them in the sport.

“You can literally look at a card, you can look at an Eddie Hearn show, a Frank Warren show, any other promoter’s show and know. Say there are 10 fights on, you can know at least eight of the winners before the bell rings on any of the fights. I can’t stand it,” Aspinall concluded. With that said, it looks like Aspinall’s views are in agreement with Teofimo Lopez who recently accused boxing of being “scripted.” Anyway, what do you think of Aspinall’s views on boxing?
