Germantown Masjid in Philadelphia confirmed the news by posting the video of his Shahadah on their official X profile. Calling it a “beautiful setting” they explained that the Immam, who proceeds a prayer at a mosque met with Davis for the occasion. Reports suggest that Tank was Christian before he adopted Islam today. The fighter has a cross tattoo on his right arm signifying the importance of religion he has in life. UFC fighter, Muhammad Mokaev also wrote, “Welcome brother @Gervontaa.” Kiwi boxer, Sonny Williams also welcomed Tank to the religion, saying, “Alhamdullilah.”
In the wake of his Ryan Garcia win in April, Tank was embroiled in a legal issue about a 2020 car crash, that injured four people including a pregnant woman. While initially he was sentenced to home arrest, per reports, not abiding by court orders led him to spend the remaining 44 days of his sentence in jail. Cut to December, the fighter converts to Islam. Without any insinuations here, it does prompt fans to remember the time when Mike Tyson too walked the path of Islam during his time in jail.
Mike Tyson’s view on religion and Islam
In May this year, in a conversation with Patrick Bet-David, Tyson detailed his relationship with faith, especially as a Muslim. He said, “You share your relationship with god because when is your turn to go in front of God, you go alone. Some people can’t deal with religion from a perspective of this is the way it is. Everyone don’t get into it from that perspective; they want their own personal relationship with Allah. Religion is just an action, something that’s repetition. What we do we wake up every day, our lifestyle is religion.”
‘Iron Mike’ spent 3 years in jail after being convicted on charges of rape. In his time behind bars, reports emerged that he had converted to Islam, after being a Catholic almost all his life. While his lifestyle choices nudged folks to question his devotion as a Muslim, years later in a revelation, he detailed how religion is a lifestyle to him.
