Things are always entertaining at Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson. The podcast is known for bringing together some of the most iconic figures from the world of combat sports. In one of its recent episodes, the show featured the former MMA fighter, Jorge Masvidal, who sat down with Iron Mike, former world champion boxer, and entrepreneur, to discuss their respective journeys in the world of combat sports. These two legends, each with a unique story to tell, shed light on their experiences and shared insights into the fight game. Mike Tyson, the boxing legend, as usual, has a lot to say about the topic at hand, this one being Nate Diaz?s alleged befuddled state at the match against Jake Paul.
The match, billed as ‘Ready 4 War’, occurred at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, on the 5th of last month, with Jake declared the winner by unanimous decision. ‘Kid Dynamite’ was quick to point out that something was not looking right in the match.

Mike Tyson initiated the topic by discussing his belief that human beings were nothing but fungus, eliciting laughter throughout the studio. The discussion quickly shifted its focus to the recent boxing match between Jake Paul and Nate Diaz, with Jorge being asked for his opinion on the matter of Nate Diaz being high during the match.
Masvidal nonchalantly revealed that Diaz has been looking the same to him for 20 years. Whether that meant he thought Diaz looked inebriated all throughout is a question that has been left unanswered, and the answer is up for debate. Mike Tyson also pointed out that during the fight between the MMA champion and the YouTube influencer-turned-boxer, Nate Diaz looked off. “He was really awkward to fight. Yeah you know I’m glad they went 10 rounds.”
Jorge concurred with Mike and went on to discuss his own experience fighting Nate Diaz, recounting the precision with which he annihilated his opponent. He also expressed the concern he felt after the referee stopped the fight, due to multiple cuts on Nate?s face. He also mentioned how since that day, Nate has had his mind set on having a rematch with Masvidal, not happy with the outcome of the original match.? Jorge remained proud of his performance, highlighting the knockdown he scored during the fight.
Then the conversion suddenly took a turn, with an interesting revelation made.
The Poor Man’s Sport
In his own experience, Mike Tyson drew upon and mentioned how a person can become obsessed with the desire for a rematch and the drive to settle scores in the ring. He also pointed out to Jorge that one receives more money for it.
The conversation shifted to the financial realities of combat sports, with both Mike and Jorge acknowledging the challenges faced by fighters. Masvidal touched upon the harsh reality that many fighters have limited options outside of combat sports, often turning to boxing for financial gain. Iron Mike summed it up crisply, “You couldn’t do nothing else; you have to go boxing. The poorest man’s sport.”
