It’s almost a decade since Floyd Mayweather and Canelo Alvarez squared off inside the ring against each other. However, the fight was a bit disappointing for the Mexican fans. According to Forbes, the 2013 but still managed to garner a record $150 million in the PPV numbers, on a total of 2.2 million buys. Well, the 23-year-old Canelo Alvarez seems too inexperienced in front of the seasoned 36-year-old Floyd Mayweather. Alvarez could only land 22% of the total punches he threw at the undefeated boxer, while Mayweather hit his opponent 46% of the time.

Many believe that on that night, Alvarez was schooled by Mayweather about the importance of defense in the sport of boxing. He himself agreed that the fight taught him some valuable lessons as there was a drastic change in Alvarez’s head movement after that fight. Besides this, Mayweather Promotions CEO emphasized Alvarez being the “top dog. Recently, Mayweather freely talked about how Canelo Alvarez was one of the easiest opponents in his career.

Fans support Canelo Alvarez as Floyd Mayweather mocks him for the punches he threw 10 years ago

Floyd Mayweather in one of the interviews, made fun of the way Alvarez threw punches in their bout a decade ago. He even said, “Canelo was so easy, we call him Cal-lose-io.” Many fans reminisced the way Mayweather toyed with Canelo Alvarez. On the other hand, other fans did not appreciate the way he talked about the fighter.

One of the fans explained that Alvarez accepted the challenge when he was only 23, while Mayweather was fighting Angel Manfredy at that age. They wrote, “Canelo took that fight when he was 23 years old against Floyd, who is one of the best fighters of all time, but how many top fighters in their prime did Floyd fight by age 23? Angel Manfredy?

Another fan couldn’t understand why Mayweather always puts down Alvarez, while the Super Middleweight Undisputed Champion always talked about ‘Money’ in high regard. They wrote, “Idk why Floyd always trashes Canelo when Canelo always praise him as one of the best fighters he fought. He dominated Canelo, and he is still super insecure lol.

One fan started remembering the fight, and how he expected more from Alvarez, even though he knew the Grand Rapids native would be the winner at the end. They wrote, “Definitely did not expect Canelo to be easywork. I mean I knew Floyd would win but I didnt know it was gonna be one of his easiest fights. I can’t believe that one judge had the audacity to score this a draw LMAO.

A Reddit user made a snarky comment on how Mayweather is quite talented, but he still does such “dumb” things. They wrote, “Incredible how someone can be dumb as a box of rocks but so preternaturally talented at the same time“.

While, another fan reminded everyone that the bout was 10 years ago, and results may have varied if it were to happen today. They wrote, “The fight was a decade ago. Mayweather will never get over himself“.
