Mike Tyson lived the majority of his life under public limelight. However, he grew up in humble beginnings and did not anticipate becoming one of the most famous personalities in the world. Moreover, even after achieving all the money in the world and prized possessions, the boxer suffered hardships. His late daughter, Exodus Tyson passed away after being strangled by a treadmill cord.
Not to mention, even before he became the Youngest Heavyweight champion, his mother passed away in 1982 from cancer. Then came multiple divorces, defeats in the ring and bankruptcy. In a recent episode of his podcast, ‘Hotboxin’ with Mike Tyson,’ the former Heavyweight champion opens up about the rough patches in his life.

Mike Tyson on being ‘Iron Mike’
The baddest man ever sat down with a controversial NFL player, Antonio Brown. In the episode, amongst other things, Tyson got candid about dealing with fans in public. He unveiled finding it uncomfortable to pose for them in pictures as he was not prepared for a life like this. In addition, this sense of discomfort had increased considerably when he was going through a tough phase in his life.
He stated, “It was tough though because no one prepares you for that you know. Sometimes your street kid and you know you’re cool like when you’re fighting after fight, like to love.” He adds, “You might be dealing with somebody, in your family died and hey can we take another picture and I wasn’t accustomed to it back then.”
Although he lived a glamorous life, this is the lesser known side of being famous. Many athletes and celebrities have spoken about finding it difficult to make out time for fans when they meet in public, especially in certain settings. Moreover, in the same interview, Tyson divulges more about finding it difficult to deal with fame.
Tyson on his ability to handle fame
Tyson was known as an aggressive and short-tempered personality back in the day. However, years after his retirement, the boxer, in retrospect looks back and acknowledges the same. But he thinks his inability to handle fame was the cause behind it. He stated, “I didn’t know how to handle fame that much. So I thought they were attacking me, and I was only a street kid, I’m not that experienced. And the only I know how to fight back is either physically or verbally that’s going to lead physical.”

It is safe to say that Tyson does not mind pointing out his own flaws despite being a larger than life figure.
