Floyd Mayweather is certainly one of the toughest fighters that Canelo Alvarez has faced in the ring. Despite having forty-two victories on his resume, Canelo Alvarez was outperformed by ‘Money’ in 2013. Apart from CJ Ross, who scored a draw, Crave Metcalfe and Dave Moretti scored the bout in Mayweather’s favor that night. The loss against Mayweather was Canelo’s first in pro boxing, and the Mexican boxer significantly improved following the mentioned defeat.

Anyway, the duo sold a total of 2.2 million pay-per-view units and subsequently registered a total revenue of $150 million. Four years after the Mayweather fight, Alvarez faced Gennady Golovkin with his undisputed middleweight status on the line. Both boxers fought their hearts out, and the contest ended in a draw. Recently, taking to X, Leonard Ellerbe announced the “toughest challenger” Canelo Alvarez is about to face “since GGG in their first fight“.

On the 30th of September, Canelo Alvarez would face Jermell Charlo once again with his undisputed middleweight title on the line. According to Ellerbe, if we are to overlook Dmitry Bivol, then Charlo represents the toughest challenger Alvarez has faced since his first fight with GGG in 2017. “Minus Bivol @TwinCharlo will by far be @Canelo’s toughest challenger since GGG in their first fight,” Ellerbe wrote.

As per Ellerbe, what Charlo would “bring to the table” will be completely “different” from anything that Alvarez “has seen in quite some time”. As a result, the CEO of Mayweather Promotions wondered whether or not Charlo’s unique style would create problems for the Mexican boxer. “Will his style create problems for Canelo on 30 Sep?” wrote Ellerbe. To know whether or not Charlo gives Alvarez the toughest fight since GGG in 2017, boxing fans around the globe would have to tune in!
