Canelo Alvarez has had a busy year. There’s a high chance that the upcoming year will follow suit, with the sole undisputed champion among men having a full plate. A wall full of world championship belts corroborates the kind of schedule that Alvarez honored and subsequently got rewarded with over the years.
Through one of his Instagram stories, which might have crossed the timeline, the undisputed super middleweight champion showcased an array of belts. They are decked around a giant ‘CA‘ (Canelo Alvarez) monogram. Describing the clip, the Mexican idol wrote, “Just some of the collection.” Undoubtedly, as one of the ‘faces of boxing,’ Canelo Alvarez has amassed a glittering array of world championship belts during the course of his distinguished career. The champion’s ‘Wall of Fame’ is worth every respect it deserves.

Showcasing the champion’s pre-eminence in boxing
He is ranked among the pound-for-pound best boxers in the world. 33-year-old Canelo Alvarez currently holds the belts of all four major sanctioning bodies: the WBC, WBA, WBO, and IBF. Collectively, they form his undisputed championship. Additionally, he carries The Ring magazine’s title as well. The belts are otherwise spread across divisions. They are either in combinations, as part of title unification, or as singular championship wins. Fans might remember him taking Graham Bensinger through that hallowed legacy a few years ago.
Canelo Alvarez’s boxing journey began eighteen years ago. At age 15, he made his professional debut on October 29, 2005. Ever since, he hasn’t looked back. After securing the regional titles, he won his first world title six years later, on March 5, 2011. Barring the two defeats he suffered at the hands of Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Dmitry Bivol, starting in the welterweight division, Alvarez has been on a winning streak.
2024, a legacy year for Canelo Alvarez?
He became an undisputed champion of the super middleweight division in 2021 after defeating Caleb Plant. Though a second attempt on May 7 last year to secure another belt in the light heavyweight division messed up in front of Dmitry Bivol, he went back to Gennady Golovkin four months later for the first title defense in the 168-pound weight class. On May 6, this year, he defeated John Ryder during the second title defense.
Continuing with his tradition of fighting twice a year, Canelo Alvarez defended his undisputed title a third time from Jermell Charlo‘s challenge on September 30. In the meantime, parallel developments led to the elevation of David Benavidez as the mandatory challenger for his WBC belt. The Phoenix, Arizona-born undefeated boxer has been clamoring for a fight for some time.

WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman seems quite positive about the Benavidez and Alvarez clash next year, hopefully by September next year. In the meantime, there’s a high chance of the champion entering the ring much earlier in May. He might face another big name. The news, anyhow, appears to have sent the fans into a frenzy.
