Better sense is gaining the upper hand in winding up the pending story at FLA Live Arena on June 11. At least that’s what appeared when John Gotti III spoke at length on Ariel Helwani’s show. He got disqualified following the brawl with Floyd Mayweather Jr. Now Gotti III needs to reconcile with a six-month ban called upon by the Florida State Athletic Commission. The former mixed martial artist turned to professional boxing last year. So, he wishes to turn over a new leaf from an infamous chapter in his budding career, especially with a big name seemingly standing by his side.

It was the night that blew everyone’s mind. John Gotti III found himself inadequate confronting Floyd Mayweather Jr. Despite the sixteen years age gap, the Oyster Bay, New York resident stood nonplussed. The undefeated former champion harassed him at will. However, there was no letting down on the trash-talking that continued over the rounds. Despite the referee’s warning, the duo carried on with the dissing. Finally left with no other option, the referee pulled the curtains by the sixth round.

Then viewers saw an unhappy Gotti III charging at Mayweather Jr. Within minutes, the camp followers swarmed for a free-for-all. Though the police brought the melee at the venue to an end, a few side stories joined the main plot. There were reports of Gotti III’s sister Nicolette Gotti issuing threats. Then Conor Mcgregor, who, too, shares an unpleasant past tasting Mayweather Jr.’s gloves, presumably joined the Gotti ranks. In what is now a deleted tweet, he wrote, “I back the Gotti’s. The war in on.

Joining ‘The MMA Hour With Ariel Helwani,’ John Gotti III first took the host through his preparations, the fight per se, and his suspension during the first fifteen minutes. Ariel Helwani then asked whether he was seeking a rematch with Mayweather Jr. The New Yorker replied that the talks were going on. He continued that their fight was the most searched item on Google. Hence keeping in mind Mayweather Jr.’s business acumen, it would be hard for him to miss taking advantage of a rematch, which Gotti III believes should take place possibly by October.

He said, “…listen, if they want to do it again, I’m here, and I promise you this time I’m gonna come out guns and Blaze and as soon as that Bell Rings, we’re going to fight now. Then Helwani checked whether Gotti III would stick with the crossover/influencer boxing genre, and given his surname, many promotions would love having him in their roles. Exuding confidence, John Gotti III replied in the affirmative. He said he would earn space for himself and believed in many opportunities coming his way.

It will not be the same person who fights Mayweather Jr. in a rematch

A few minutes later, Helwani asked, “Do you still feel that way about him, considering what was said and what happened in the aftermath?” The former mixed martial artist replied, “I don’t, I don’t, you know now, now I’m going into the next fight it’s personal, so now we’re going to fight. I’m going to take it to him every second of the round…He explained that when he went for the fight against Mayweather Jr., he was still in awe of the boxing great. However, in their rematch, those feelings will no longer exist. Now it’s a bit more personal for him.
