A lot of times, fans can’t help but dwell on what could have been just like a fan on X today! However, as the fan raised his question about the legendary Floyd Mayweather against Terence Crawford, Leonard Ellerbe quickly put an end to it. 

Where Mayweather went down in history as the most successful boxer, winning titles in five different weight divisions, Crawford’s career thus far hasn’t been anything less than glorious. Undeniably, a fight between them would have been a spectacle to behold. However, here’s what the CEO of Mayweather Promotions had to say about it today.

A handful of hours ago, a fan asked, “If Floyd Mayweather came back now to fight Terrance Crawford for his titles, would it be the highest-grossing fight of all time?” The fan even suggested if Floyd won the fight – he would deserve the top five all-time ranking. However, not so long after, Ellerbe found the tweet and swiftly ended the speculation in its tracks.

“Why would he ever do something dumb like that? He already holds all those records,” argued Mayweather’s business partner. He also added that people’s opinion on Mayweather’s position in the all-time rankings doesn’t matter. While a fight between Floyd Mayweather and Terence Crawford is farfetched, to say the least, the same can not be said about a rematch between Floyd and Manny Pacquiao.

In December 2023, ‘Pac-Man’ revealed the potential of a fight between him and Floyd, taking center stage during a RIZIN event. The fight was supposed to be hosted by the Japanese promoters, but a new update suggests a new organizer and a new location. According to a January 18 report from WBN, the Saudi investors are eyeing to host the fight.

The report suggests that the Saudis are aiming to bring the fight in the latter part of 2024 as part of their Riyadh season. However, it’s also worth mentioning that there hasn’t been a word from Floyd or his corner. The pair first encountered each other in 2015, when fans were left dissatisfied with the fight. However, in Mayweather fashion, Floyd had managed to secure the win.
