Who is Oscar De La Hoya’s Daughter, Atiana?

It’s not often that people’s nickname is engraved in history. The ‘Golden Boy’, is a nickname earned by Oscar De La Hoya for winning the gold medal in the 1992 Olympics and the name is not just literally accurate but also a symbol of his legacy. De La Hoya won ten world titles in six different weight classes in his career. Now having retired from fighting, he manages his promotion company ‘Golden Boy Promotions‘.

For someone as great as De La Hoya, it would go without question that his family lives a lavish life. That, however, was not true until recent years as De La Hoya abandoned most of his children with their mothers due to his substance abuse problem. Today we look at the Golden Boy’s eldest daughter Atiana De La Hoya.

Atiana De La Hoya’s early life and career

Oscar welcomed his first daughter, Atiana with his former fiancée Shanna Moakler in 1999. The couple went on to split the next year following which Moakler married Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker. Barker left no stones unturned while raising Atiana. The former champion showed his appreciation for Barker in countless interviews. Atiana has talked of both her father and stepfather. She said, “I truly think they both are the best at what they do, and aside from everything they’ve taught me about life, seeing the work they put in every day to be where they are is the goal,”

Now as a 24-year-old woman, Atiana is a growing influencer who has nearly 600k followers on Instagram. She has also starred in her own TV show, ‘Growing up supermodel’, and acted as a lead in a recent movie ‘Maya‘ which came out last year. In Oscar’s documentary ‘The Golden Boy’ Atiana talked of her rocky relationship with her father. She mentioned, “I think a lot of people knew him better than I did because they watched his career,”. While the De La Hoyas have had a rollercoaster of a life, it seems they all fit in together very well now.

Why did Oscar De La Hoya not meet Atiana for the first 16 years of her life?

Not too long ago, Shanna Moakler opened up about her past relationship and custody arrangement with Oscar De La Hoya. On the ‘Dumb Blonde‘ podcast, Moakler shared that De La Hoya once told her, “‘I won’t see you or the baby until she’s 16” if she sued him for palimony. She recounted a poignant moment when De La Hoya declared, “I have more money than God. Don’t be too hard on me,” before leaving.

Facing no other option, Moakler sued for palimony and emerged victorious. Moakler revealed that De La Hoya didn’t reconnect with them until Atiana was around 16, but since then, they have reconciled, and he has apologized for past issues.

While De La Hoya may have been absent from his daughter’s life for s significant amount of time, her mother and step-father made sure she had a good upbringing. Moreover, they reconciled. So, all is well that ends well, right?
