We love them, we hate them, and sometimes they make us question everything. Enter the controversial ‘Greatest of All Time’ (G.O.A.T.) list. Published by Sports Highlights, it has stirred up a storm, nay, a typhoon. It’s almost as if the editors threw a handful of chum into a pool full of hungry sharks. The result? Now, Mayweather’s an outstanding boxer, no doubt. A stunning record and an unbeaten streak make the man a phenomenon in the ring. It’s crucial to dissect why this new ‘GOAT’ title for Mayweather is causing such an uproar. We all know Mayweather. The man has an impeccable 50-0 record, a boxing legacy that many athletes can only dream of achieving. But does an undefeated streak cement one’s place as the boxing G.O.A.T.? Apparently, for many fans, it doesn’t.

Kicking off the wave of dissent, our first vocal critic, RI Barrientos, interrupts the dialogue with a punchy comment, “Boxing??? Nah!” He subsequently challenged the prevailing notion that Mayweather’s undefeated record automatically elevates him to the pinnacle of boxing greatness.

Equally passionate, Tyrone de Guzman offers a different contender for the top spot. He jumps into the ring and boldly asserts, “In boxing, Manny Pacquiao is my GOAT.” His statement brings a fresh perspective to the debate, further making room for a fierce contender–the Filipino boxing legend, Manny Pacquiao.

Following de Guzman’s lead, Itch Mond Lastra steps up with a compelling argument. Lastra fires off, “There’s a lot of undefeated boxers in the world. But there’s only one 8 division world champion. Manny Pacquiao.” His comment acknowledges the achievements of other undefeated boxers while reinforcing Pacquiao’s unique claim to the throne as the sole eight-division world champion in boxing history.

Moreover, let’s not forget the outcry from Rafael Espiritu, a spirited fan expressing disbelief at the choice. Espiritu’s response was a cutting question: “Boxing? Mayweather? Who did this sh*t?” He represents the faction of fans finding the choice perplexing, suggesting a divide between the notion of a spotless record and true boxing greatness.

Eventually, the debate takes an unexpected twist when Brett Benjamin broadens the conversation beyond the boxing ring. He tosses a curveball into the mix, arguing, “Muhammad Ali for boxing and Babe Ruth for baseball would be more fitting to this list, as well as Roger Federer for tennis. Others are fine.” Benjamin’s comment draws attention to other sporting legends, underlining the subjectivity inherent in any GOAT discussion.
