For Canelo Alvarez, everything is going to be on the line for his upcoming fight. He is defending all of his super middleweight belts against the undisputed super welterweight champion, Jermell Charlo. Alvarez has been facing criticism since he took a beating from Dmitry Bivol at 175, and came back to 168 to fight against John Ryder. Even during his fight with Ryder, many boxing pundits claimed that Alvarez looked too slow. Although he won that fight, many still believe that ‘Cinnamon’ has lost his skills and isn’t the boxer he once was.

These claims, however, didn’t sit well with Alvarez. After being rejected by Bivol for a rematch at 175, Alvarez went on to sign a 3-fight deal with the PBC. The first fight as part of this deal is the fight against Jermell Charlo on September 30. In this fight, Alvarez is looking forward to changing all the narratives floating in the air about him. Based on what he recently said, Canelo looks like a man determined to reclaim his post.

Canelo Alvarez accepted that he has been pretty sluggish since his left wrist surgery after his bout with Gennady Golovkin. But Alvarez is preparing to get back in the game and present the best version of himself in front of the world. In the second episode of the Showtime series, ‘All Access’, Alvarez addressed the criticism he has been facing by proclaiming, “I can’t wait for September 30. This fight, you’ll see, I’m the king of boxing.

He addressed the concerns about his previous performance by saying, “Boxing-wise, I wasn’t 100 percent. But critics are always looking for something, aren’t they? And obviously, I agree with them, that I haven’t looked, the last few fights, like I used to.” At the same time, he stated that he doesn’t just want to give them a “rebuttal,” instead he wants his performance to speak for itself.

However, he also made sure that the people knew that he was, under no circumstance, underestimating Jermell Charlo. He even commended his opponent going into the fight, all prepared and confident.

He said, “He’s a fighter that hits hard. He’s a good boxer that knows how to use distance. That’s what makes him dangerous.
