“We’re playing a video game”: Gerald Tucker puts light on unbelievable mitt training with Floyd Mayweather

Anyone would be fazed to be training with Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather, one of the greatest boxers of our time. But Ohio boxer Gerald Tucker does not make that list. Mayweather’s cherished uncle, Roger, passed away in March 2020. Following this, the boxing legend enlisted the talents of the undefeated former professional boxer, to join his coaching team. Initially, Tucker was relatively unknown. However, he has since become a widely recognized trainer, gaining significant prominence in the boxing world.

In an interview, Tucker broke down what it is like doing mitts training with Mayweather and what works in making sure the pugilist continues on his journey upward.

Gerald Tucker on why Floyd Mayweather finds it easy to work with him

The interviewer was curious about what went through Tucker’s mind as he did mitts training with the ‘Pretty Boy’. Surprisingly, for Tucker, it is just training. He does not worry about impressing anyone or who he is working with. All the trainer cares about is if his trainee is receiving the right push required to progress. Tucker believes this is the reason he is easy to work with.

“I’m so locked in, I think that’s why I’m easy to work with. I don’t care about what’s going on out there, I’m not trying to show off for the crowd, I make sure I’m doing everything right and I can push the fighter to be sharp and perfect stance, perfect lands, perfect distance, perfect snaps on punches and I’m calling out stuff real fast and tryna trick them. It’s like a game, we’re playing a video game.”

Tucker added that Mayweather puts in an enormous amount of effort as well. He did not have words to describe just how easily he could keep up with the rigorous training.

Gerald Tucker no longer remains Mayweather’s trainer?

Despite a once-strong bond, Gerald Tucker and Floyd Mayweather’s relationship has abruptly ended, as Tucker revealed on Instagram. The split, seemingly due to financial disagreements, occurred because Tucker believed his earnings from exhibition matches were lower than they should have been.
