Since the WBC did not entertain Amanda Serrano‘s idea of equality and restrained from sanctioning her bout against Danila Ramos fought for 12 three-minute rounds, ‘The Real Deal’ relinquished her WBC Featherweight title. In addition, she publicly stated that the WBC stood against equality.
In this context, as FightHype recently interviewed WBC President, Mauricio Sulaiman, the 53-year-old made it clear why he opposed ‘The Real Deal.’

The WBC will not yield to “demands”: Mauricio Sulaiman continues to oppose Amanda Serrano
Despite the statements made by Amanda Serrano and her subsequent action which resulted in the abandonment of the WBC Featherweight title, Mauricio Sulaiman is of the opinion that there is a reason why women boxers are asked to fight for 10 tw0-minute rounds inside the ring. According to Sulaiman’s recent statements, although the WBC has played a crucial role in “today’s success of women’s boxing,” the organization will never compromise the fighters’ safety.
Likewise, Sulaiman said, “There is nothing more important than safety. We are never going to give in to popularity and demands or speculation and put the women at risk or the men at risk.”
“For some reason, we reduced [it] from 15 to 12 rounds. For some reason, we changed the weigh-in to the day before. [And] for some reason we have women fighting [for] two minutes and a maximum of 10 rounds. It is not what I say. It’s a medical board [with] experts [from] around the world on sports,” Sulaiman added. “This is combat sport which is dangerous. We will never whatsoever put a fighter at [a] higher risk than they should be when they get into the ring,” he concluded.
In this connection, it is worth exploring what Serrano had in mind when she gave up the WBC Featherweight title.

Serrano felt WBC refused to evolve for equality
In October this year, Amanda Serrano went against Danila Ramos and fought for 12 3-minute rounds, seeking equality. At this, although the IBF, IBO, WBO, and WBA sanctioned the fight, the WBC stood against it. Likewise, at Serrano vs. Ramos, the WBC Featherweight title was not on the line. As a result, four days ago, Serrano took to Instagram and gave up the WBC title.
