Canelo Alvarez is about to enter the ring against Jaime Munguia on Cinco De Mayo weekend at T-Mobile Arena, Las Vegas, Nevada. However, ahead of the all-Mexican clash, a clip of ‘Cinnamon’ alongside Rocky lead Sylvester Stallone has surfaced online. Despite never stepping into the ring professionally, Stallone is perhaps one of the most popular characters in the boxing community.
The 77-year-old actor appeared on the big screen with his movie Rocky in 1976 and immediately took over the hearts and minds of every boxing fan worldwide. However, there is something he could do that even the most talented boxers can’t. And that’s throwing a fake punch, an art that he taught Canelo in the resurfaced clip, shared on social media by Boxraw today.

It’s unclear whether Canelo was planning to feature in a movie back then, but the resurfaced clip gave fans an intriguing look behind the curtains on how actors train for such scenes in the movies. Nevertheless, in the clip shared on X (formerly Twitter), Stallone can be seen boxing with Canelo as the latter threw hooks at Stallone.

After each hook, wheezing past inches away from Stallone’s face, the veteran actor would slap his hand to create an effect that constructs an illusion of impact. Moreover, Canelo picked it up pretty quickly, given his extensive past in the sport. Canelo might have mastered the art of throwing fake punches. But he can not dodge criticism from this boxing legend.

Since Canelo defeated Jermell Charlo last year, the only name people want to see against Canelo is David Benavidez. However, when PBC offered Canelo $60 million to fight ‘The Mexican Monster,’ he promptly rejected the offer. This didn’t sit well with the former heavyweight champion of the world, Mike Tyson, who condemned the move.
According to an interview with Marca, Tyson said, “What’s wrong with Canelo? Is he afraid of losing? Doesn’t he want to give the fans the fight they want to see?” He further added, “Do you not respect the legacy of the great Mexican champions who faced the best regardless of the money?… This is a shame for boxing and for Mexico.” Later in the interview, Tyson added, “It seems he doesn’t have the courage to do it. It is a shame because he has a lot of talent. But he lacks heart.”
