Devin Haney needs to make a choice and does not have much time for it. Haney teased the fans a move up in weight class after his last fight against Vasiliy Lomachenko. But simultaneously welcomed a clash with Shakur Stevenson at lightweight. And for a brief moment, the fight was as good as done.

However, disagreements took place over the purse split and negotiations for the bout came to a sudden halt. And the undisputed champion was looking at other options. One such option is a title fight at the super light division against Regis Prograis. That being said, Haney is now left with a hard decision to make. Especially after the WBC’s recent mandate.

On Twitter, it was reported that Haney must either pick  title defense against Shakur Stevenson or have a chance to be a  tw0-division champion by clashing against Regis Prograis. The same was notified by the WBC and if Haney fails to comply, he may be stripped of his belt.

It was reported by @MichaelBenson, “Today is WBC deadline day for Devin Haney. The WBC have ruled that he must now decide if his next fight will be a defence of his undisputed lightweight world titles vs Shakur Stevenson or if he will move up to challenge Regis Prograis for his WBC super-lightweight world title.”

With great power comes great responsibility to keep the division enlivened with new contenders and title contests. Unlike many non-champion boxers, Haney cannot afford to stay out of competition for long without facing consequences. Who will the champion face next? Only time can reveal. For we know that Haney and his potential opponents are being vocal to face one another.
