On the 15th of October, Tim Tszyu managed to defend his title against Brian Mendoza. Through a unanimous decision victory, the Australian fighter held on to his WBO super welterweight world title in his home country. In his first attempt at such defense, it seemed like Tsyzu had it in him to wobble Mendoza quite a few times in the match. But Mendoza was not the one to go down easily.
Tszyu kept up his dominance throughout the match as he was able to hold his own against a strong opponent like Brian Mendoza. With this feather on his cap, Tszyu wants to move ahead and fight another adept fighter, Jermell Charlo.

Not to compete but to win, Tim Tszyu wants to fight Jermell Charlo
In the last ten months of the year, the Australian fighter has taken no respite from the ring. He undertook three big fights in the year 2023, and every time he entered the ring, he only left as a victor. In a bid to continue this streak, he wants to engage with fighters of a higher caliber like Jermell Charlo. After his scathing defeat to Canelo Alvarez on September 30th through a unanimous decision, there remained questions as to who would want to fight Charlo. Enter ‘The Soul Taker.’ Expressing his desire to fight the younger Charlo brother, he said, “Yeah I think at the start of the year, people were more like I’m just in to compete you know in the Charlo fight, but now I think the momentum has swinged to the fact that I’m actually here to win the Charlo fight and take all the belts.”

With each fight, he takes, Tszyu has only improved his position in the sport. He said, “And I feel like Charlo’s been like for the past couple of years the name that I’ve sort of always been working for and that was my aim and everything, sort of leads to everything. It’s like a video game, everything leads to all bosses and this is the ultimate boss for me to take out.”
The Australian boxer has expressed his desire to face Jermell Charlo, another world champion in in the same weight division. Tszyu, however, thinks that Charlo might embark upon a lengthy hiatus or explore other opponents after his highly lucrative Canelo fight. During a post-fight press conference, Tszyu stated that Charlo might be on a “one-year honeymoon, spending that cash, wasting that cash.”

Tszyu is prepared for the fight and intends to stay active. However, now everything is in in Charlo’s hands. He and his promoter are open to other opportunities if Charlo refuses to acknowledge the matchup. Will Charlo agree to face the Australian fighter in the ring? What do you think?
