Two of the biggest boxing draws in British boxing are currently at opposite ends of the world. Tyson Fury is in Saudi Arabia, preparing and waiting for the big clash with Francis Ngannou. On the other hand, Anthony Joshua went to the most unusual of places. There, he got a chance to battle his inner demons, albeit for a fee of over $2000. Yes, that’s what the offbeat haven, a ‘darkness retreat’ in Southern Oregon, offers to all its guests.

‘The Gypsy King’ is a few days away from one of the most significant crossover events of the year. Francis Ngannou, the former UFC Heavyweight champion, makes his pro boxing debut against the Heavyweight boxing champion in Riyadh this weekend. When asked about his long-time homeland rival’s unconventional sojourn, the busy as a beaver Fury seems barely unfazed and retorted in his typical quipster style.

The Mancunian world champion was in conversation with Boxing Social‘s Matt Lenihan. After talking over a slew of topics, the latter asked Fury, “I want to ask you quickly because it’s been in the news, um, Anthony Joshua’s gone on this retreat where he stayed in darkness for four days, um, to character building, so I want to get your your opinion on what he’s doing and why he’s doing it for, and what’s your thoughts on it?

An unshaken WBC Heavyweight champion replied, “Yeah, unbelievable. One thing to say out in the cold…” Then, he looked at his companions in the background, who shouted in unison, “Frozen!

During the interview, Tyson Fury spoke about his newborn son, Prince Rico Paris Fury. Then, appreciating how Saudi Arabia has become the go-to place for the most significant events in boxing, he spoke about the time frame he needed to prepare himself for the Ngannou fight. Talking about the tentative Oleksandr Usyk fight, he replied that he is entirely focused on Saturday’s contest and hasn’t spared much thought for the undisputed clash and other formalities, such as the rematch clause.

Anthony Joshua recently made headlines when he spilled the beans about his Sky Cave Dark Retreat visit. Speaking to Men’s Health, ‘AJ’ said, “I’m going to a place for four days where I will be on my own in total darkness, pitch black for four days… I’m doing it for character. If I go for a walk in the woods, enjoy the scenery, [and] the birds chirping, I’m going for peace…In this, though, it’s just me and my mind.

It is located near Klamath Falls in southern Oregon’s Cascade-Siskiyou Wilderness. The place offers its guests an out-of-the-world experience. By plugging off all modern-day distractions, the person squares up to the most appealing of thoughts and is, thereby, in the process, able to find a way to their innermost self.
