It might not be a fight on par with the likes of Crawford-Spence Jr. or the recently held Alvarez-Charlo. However, it has enough ingredients in it to make it a rewarding one. Such is the profile of the two belligerents. The reigning WBC (interim) Super Middleweight champion, David Benavidez, stands in one corner. At the other, former two-division world champion Demetrius Andrade.

David Benavidez and Demetrius Andrade met in Los Angeles for the kickoff press conference. Many fans might still remember heated exchanges between Benavidez and Caleb Plant before their March 25 clash. Hence, the decorum and respect both ‘The Mexican Monster’ and Andrade accorded each other yesterday took many by surprise. After seconds of tense staring while Brian Custer made his announcements, they finally shook hands and posed for a few photographs.

The following user appears to be a bitter critic of Canelo Alvarez. Highlighting Benavidez and Andrade as the two men who have Alvarez running for his life, the user called their November match a serious one. It differs significantly from the handpicked contest between the Mexican champion and Jermell Charlo. The user said, “The 2 men that scare Canelo half to death. This is a real fight. Not that cherry-picked nonsense Charlo and Canelo do.

The next fan lauded Benavidez and Andrade for behaving like men and treating each other respectfully. It bodes well for the outcome of the upcoming battle: “This is going to be a great fight, and it’s good to see [warriors] acting like men and showing each other respect instead of acting like fools.” But the following user would probably love watching David Benavidez beat the wits out of Demetrius Andrade, who the user believes returns to the ring after two years’ inactivity, probably due to surmounting debts. The user said, “Andrade [is] fighting after running high on bills and being in debt [and] inactive as hell! Let’s go, Benavidez…smoke this guy!”

However, the next fan seems suspicious about whether Canelo Alvarez would be the winner between the two boxers. The undisputed champion might not even go against the loser. This fan believes: “Yall really think Canelo [is going to] fight the winner……hell, he may even duck the loser.” Finally, happy with the development, this user said that after years of going after lesser opponents, David Benavidez eventually mustered the courage to fight someone like Andrade. “Finally, Benavides grows some ba**s from chasing smaller fighters.

Even though they will exchange blows in another month, a common thread binds Benavidez and Andrade. That is Canelo Alvarez. Both have been chasing the undisputed Super Middleweight champion for a fight that will be a prominent landmark on the legacy front and ensure a hefty purse.

Not many would remember Demetrius Andrade’s presence during the post-Billy Joe Saunders fight. As Canelo and Eddie Hearn addressed the pose of reporters, Andrade, present at the venue, interrupted, asking the champion when they could square up. Interestingly, after defending his WBO Middleweight title for the fifth time, the Rhode Island-born Southpaw returned only by January 23 for a ten-round non-title fight.

Probably as he turned 35, with chances of big fights slumping, he foresees the way to Alvarez through the Benavidez fight. But ‘The Mexican Monster’ is hardly a pushover. More so, all the followers are familiar with his intentions. Right after the Caleb Plant fight, he called out Canelo Alvarez. Even a lucrative offer from his team barely had any favorable impact. However, things now appear on a positive note, with the WBC declaring him the mandatory challenger for Alvarez’s title. A win over Andrade will further solidify his credentials to claim the fight against the Mexican icon.
