The boxing world is no stranger to comparisons between fighters from different generations. These comparisons often ignite distinct opinions and subsequently cause profound debates. Similarly, the boxing world was asked to compare the careers of two legendary boxers: Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. Mayweather, quite literally, has remained undefeated throughout his career. He has a flawless record of 50 wins against no defeats and 27 knockouts. On the contrary, Chavez was never beaten in his first 90 bouts. His current record stands at 107 victories, 6 defeats, and 2 no draws.

However, a frequent saying in the sport suggests that it is not about winning but about who you win against. Many subscribe to the notion that beating one formidable opponent is more impressive than beating multiple journeymen. Similar is the crux of the debate for this comparison to have a definite answer. A section of the boxing world would advance the claim that Mayweather has fought against tougher competition. Which begs the question, what are the metrics to determine the level of competition, and who decides them? The fans. So let’s take a look at what the fans had to offer to the intriguing question at hand.
