After the Super Bowl Radio Row fracas, it looks like the April 20 showdown between Devin Haney and Ryan Garcia has stumbled upon the next roadblock. The fragile deal received a second life towards the end of January as both boxers agreed to fight. It follows last December’s much-hyped talks, when it seemed a match was very much in the offing, caving in.

Now there’s a new challenge, and seemingly Ryan Garcia has expressed unhappiness with the development. As could be expected, it was only a matter of time before Team Haney, perhaps not much fazed by the change, replied. They launched a scathing attack on the Californian, citing it as tantrums before staging a neat escape from the bout itself. Devin Haney’s WBC light welterweight title is on the line in the April clash.

Per the initial schedule, the fight between Ryan Garcia and Devin Haney was supposed to take place on April 20 in Las Vegas. However, now there’s a slight change. The fight date remains the same, it seems. However, the site of the match appears to have switched around. According to the updates coming in, instead of the ‘Sin City’, the face-off between the two young boxers will happen at the ‘Big Apple’. However, ‘KingRy’ doesn’t sound too enthused by the rearrangement. He didn’t waste too much time, voicing out his thoughts openly.

He first responded when boxing follower Ray Jackson pointed out the change in the venue. It is now Barclays Center. So Ryan Garcia replied that the April fight deserved nothing short of the famed MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. Additionally, he shared that he was trying his level best to get the fight back to the originally intended venue.

But sometime later, he added, “This decision has nothing to do with NYC but everything to do with business and what I believe is the best move for my career.” However, the message didn’t escape the sharp eyes of ‘The Dream’. Slamming the Californian, the light welterweight champion wrote that the Californian could be looking for a way out. After all his initial tough talks, Haney remarked that he now comes across as a weakling. “This dude planning his escape.. ho* a** n**ga talk, that tough talk, but now talking like a b**ch!” Haney said.

After some time, Ryan Garcia also entered the Twitter arena. Hitting out at ‘The Dream’ for meaningless chatter, he highlighted that all he’s trying to do is make the fight as lucrative as possible, especially for him.

There’s more to the story

Subsequently, Devin Haney also came up with an explanation. The reason why the fight is taking place in New York City is due to the impact it might have on the Canelo fight.

Calling it a ‘brilliant move, Matchroom’s Eddie Hearn further explained it to Fight Hub. He said, “…New York is is a huge catchment area for boxing, and you know, when you got Canelo Alvarez potentially fighting May the fourth two weeks later, you know, why not go to another massive market for that fight…
