In an unprecedented turn of events, Tyson Fury suffered an injury ahead of his fight with Oleksandr Usyk. During a sparring match, ‘The Gypsy King’ received a cut above his right eye. As per an official statement released by Queensberry Promotions, the cut required serious medical attention and would need considerable time to heal.

As a result, Tyson Fury vs. Oleksandr Usyk will not be taking place on February 17th as earlier planned. On that note, as Tyson Fury discussed his injury in a social-media post, team Oleksandr Usyk insulted ‘The Gypsy King’. Here is what they said.

Following the “freak cut” during the sparring session, Tyson Fury claimed to be devastated. Likewise, he apologized to “everyone affected“. In addition, ‘The Gypsy King’ promised that he will diligently work towards the rescheduled date once his eye is healed. However, Egis Klimas, Oleksandr Usyk’s manager thinks since Fury does not want to face Usyk, ‘The Gypsy King’ had his wife “hit him with a frying pan in his brow“. Likewise, Klimas also called Fury a coward.

On the other hand, when Fury took to Instagram and shared a photo of himself regretting his injury, Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassyuk sprinkled salt on Fury’s wound.

Cant help getting injured in sparring. but what i can say was Usyk was in trouble i am in fantastic shape. i will resheduel soon as i can. 2024 a massive year for team GK #undisputed #wbcking,” wrote Tyson Fury. “Wish you soonest recovery. God sent you a sign. Think of retirement, brother,” replied Usyk’s promoter Alex Krassyuk.

Meanwhile, Queensberry Promotions released a statement regarding the postponement of Usyk vs. Fury.

What will be the new date for Usyk vs. Fury?

In an official statement, the Queensberry Promotions informed the people that the Fury’s cut required significant stitching. As a result, they confirmed that the injury dashed all hopes of  Fury vs. Usyk taking place on February 17th. Speaking about the new date for Usyk vs. Fury, reports state it will depend on the period ‘The Gypsy King’ will require for recovery. “Once the doctors have appraised Tyson’s eye, we will have a better idea of the period of recovery needed,” read the official statement.
