“They Might Have To Fight”: Jermell Charlo Breaks His Silence On Twin Brother’s Slap Fiasco With Caleb Plant

On 29th June, history was created when Terence Crawford emerged as the ultimate undisputed champion in the welterweight division. But in the same T-Mobile Arena, there was a new rivalry brewing. As fans rejoiced about the much-anticipated clash between Crawford and  Spence Jr., Caleb Plant made headlines at the same venue.

In what seemed to be a sudden altercation with super middleweight fighter, Caleb Plant, Jermall Charlo was on the receiving end of a slap. As the footage of the incident went viral, fans jumped in to inquire about the reason why the two fighters came at each other. More than a month later, Jermall Charlo’s younger brother has come out to clear some air with reference to the altercation.

“I didn’t appreciate it,” Jermell Charlo Hints at a fight between twin brother and Caleb Plant

In a recent development in the Jermall-Caleb fiasco, Jermell Charlo has spoken out against Caleb Plant slapping his older brother. While Plant clarified the reason why he had to take such a violent step in the altercation, the younger Charlo brother provided his two cents on what went down that night.

According to the fighter, he was present backstage trying to simmer down the rising tensions between his brother and Plant. He claimed that he took Plant aside and asked him to either leave the site or ignore the provocation coming his way. He said, “I talked to Plant before the slap actually happened.” 

However, Plant paid no heed to his suggestion. As the altercation worsened further, Plant retorted back with a slap to Jermall. Upset with such treatment of his brother, ‘Iron Man’ Jermell Charlo said that his brother’s team has to respond to the insult at the hands of Plant. He said, “if you don’t do it in the ring, you better go get your lick back. I don’t know how you want to do it — just get it back.” 

He further also hinted at a fight between his brother and Plant. He said, “It sucks for me and my brother as well. They might have to fight. If they gotta fight, they gotta fight.”

But what really caused the fight?

Earlier, Caleb Plant explained why he felt that his slapping Jermall Charlo was completely justified. He claimed that Charlo instigated the entire confrontation by berating him and “pulling” on his beard a couple of times. Apparently, even after multiple warnings, Jermall did not cease his instigation. With his wife and his friends watching this confrontation take its course, Plant was left with no choice but to resort to violence.

Plant clarified saying, “Nobody touched my wife. I mean, it was just me and ol’ buddy. I mean, a man has got a right to, you know, defend himself. You know, grown man touch another grown man in his face, pulling on his beard real hard, and you know, I’ve got the decency to tell you not to do that again and I don’t smash on you right there.”

As Jermell Charlo braces himself to fight Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez by moving up two weight classes, his brother has taken a long sabbatical from the boxing ring. Now that the younger Charlo brother has hinted at Jermall’s probable fight with Plant, it remains to be seen when the fighter will venture into the ring.
