Terence Crawford established his name in the history books of boxing when he grabbed the Undisputed crown in the Welterweight division after defeating Errol Spence Jr. by a ninth-round KO. Crawford broke the curse of 17 years in the division, as there were no Undisputed champion in the division after Zab Judah who lost his IBF title against Floyd Mayweather in 2006. Additionally, Crawford also became the first man to have been the Undisputed champion in two different divisions,  literally changing the tides in the sport.

Before the bout, many considered it to be a 50-50 matchup, as Spence was coming strong as the Unified Champion of the Welterweight division. But Crawford turned the contest into one-sided domination and made everyone’s jaw drop as he showcased his prowess to the entire world. To this, not long ago. Crawford stated how the Spence fight happened at “the best time”. Recently, even the former boxing champion has talked about the prospects of their rematch.

Former World Champion gives him opinions on Spence-Crawford rematch

In a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Johnny Nelson was asked whether he thinks that the difference in the weight of the fighters could make a difference in the rematch between Terence Crawford and Errol Spence Jr. He instantly denied and stated that he doesn’t believe the weight can make much difference in their second fight together.

He said, “Look at the ability, look at the boxing, look at the technique. What I’m saying is Crawford was betting him in every department so I’m trying to figure out what difference is it going to be?” Moreover, he wasn’t expecting such a performance from Spence Jr. as well, he said, “That’s what I saw Spence was, there were certain things that I saw, I thought there’s something up right there man.

In a way, Nelson is not quite sure about what could really change in the rematch of the fighters. However, Spence Jr.’s trainer holds a different perspective on this matter, as Derrick James believes that Spence will be coming back stronger for Crawford’s titles next time.

Derrick James had a brief conversation recently with InsideFighting, where he divulged the condition of Errol Spence Jr. after losing to Terence Crawford. Additionally, he talked about the prospects of their rematch against each other and how he’ll be preparing hard to put down Crawford in his second attempt.

James said, “I know he’ll be [victorious]…different, different situation, different weight“. So he’s made it clear that they want a rematch against ‘Bud’, and they’re already working on making the fight happen with their team.
