So Carl Froch didn’t take much time. He came prepared with an answer for John Fury. Furious at the former super middleweight champion for nit-picking at his son Tyson Fury, the latter openly called out Froch for a fight in Wembley Stadium. It was up to ‘The Cobra’ whether to accept the challenge or not.

‘The Gypsy King’ and Oleksandr Usyk had a showdown all set for February 17. However, an injury the former received while sparring spoiled the sport. As a result, the fight in Saudi Arabia had to be postponed. Back home, many didn’t take the developments kindly. Among them, Carl Froch seemed to have quite a few questions over the cut. Understandably, John Fury couldn’t sit through such disparagement. He responded by teasing a face-off at the largest arena in the U.K. At the other end, Froch suggested appearance, but subject to a provision.

‘The Cobra’ Still Stings

But first, some chiding for Fury Senior. He respected the fighting resume Tyson Fury’s father boasted of. But that doesn’t mean he could come up calling out ‘The Cobra’. Revealing that he was still fighting fit, Carl Froch insisted that a fight with him would barely go any distance. “The Cobra still in outrageous chiseled shape; if you were still across the ring with me with 10-ounce gloves on, it wouldn’t last very long,” Carl Froch said.

Later, he also clarified archrival George Groves’ role in the whole drama. Beseeching John Fury’s reasoning, he explained that Groves was just mocking. Else, on what ground did he expect them to fill in the Wembley? Fury is already 59 and not in the prime of health. Froch recalled the last time he fought at the celebrated avenue when he and Groves fought their second grudge match in front of a capacity 80,000 crowd.

He said, “When George Groves said, Why don’t you fight Carl Froch John? Do it at Wembley Stadium. 93-94,000 people it was taking the pi**. What makes you think we can fill the Wembley Stadium? Me, and you listen, you’re 59 years old. You’re obviously not in shape…”

Finally, Carl Froch stated that a fight between them may never happen. Anyhow, a line-up such as theirs might attract those in the crossover fight business.

Carl Froch vs. John Fury? A good case may be…

If at all a fight has to happen between them, then it won’t be for any monetary gains. Froch made it clear. The sole reason, if there is one, for him to participate would be on charitable grounds only.

It’s not going to happen. John, now Misfits are talking about maybe something happening…but if any kind of fight was going to materialize between me and you, it wouldn’t be for financial gain…I’d be doing it for charity…so if it did get to that stage, just know one thing: this ain’t for financial benefit; this is for charity, simple…” said Carl Froch.

The final riposte from ‘The Cobra’ might have finally doused any hopes for what could have been a fiery and exciting exchange. Carl Froch once again succeeded in riling the Fury camp. Last year, he invited the world champion’s wrath for highlighting a few downsides of his fight with Francis Ngannou.
