Terence Crawford made history by becoming the first-ever boxer to attain the “Undisputed,” crown in two weight divisions. His recent win against Errol Spence Jr. solidified his status as one of the best pound-for-pound fighters in the sport. Meanwhile, he has set his eyes set on another undisputed champion: Canelo Álvarez.

Even though Crawford did show disinterest towards facing Alvarez in the past over their weight disparity, however, in a recent turn of events, Crawford took his words back by calling out, ‘Saul,’ a few days ago. Moreover, the former heavyweight champion, Deontay Wilder thinks it is a bad idea— But why?

Wilder is a knockout artist through and through. He boasts a record of 43 victories and 42 came by the way of a knockout. Not to mention, he is one of the elite fighters in the heavyweight division. Safe to say, he has been in the fight game long enough to know a thing or two about weight disparity. Crawford is a welterweight fighter and usually weighs around 146 lbs. Alvarez, on the other hand, weighs in at 168 for his fights. The weight disparity between the two is quite substantial, to say the least. In light of that, Wilder thinks the match-up would be unfair.

In an interview with ESNews, Wilder claimed that a fighter carrying more weight would be hard to stop by a smaller fighter. Reflecting on the weight difference between the two fighters, he stated, “That’s way too much. It is just a different feeling when you touch those guys and heavier it is like a baby.” He added, “Not saying you can’t knock nobody out but I think it just takes a little more time when you get on with the weight. The absorption of the punches is a lot different.”

It is quite evident that Wilder is no fan of this match-up. However, that does not mean that the bout will not take place. Moreover, this fight would be highly lucrative for both fighters. Moreover, Crawford thinks that a fight with Canelo could be massive for his career.
