Terence Crawford finally broke his silence after the IBF stripped him of their Welterweight belt and gave the same to Jaron Ennis. Besides slightly rebuking the IBF, Crawford mourned the fact that Ennis became the IBF Welterweight champ without having to fight for it. In his opinion, instead of straightaway accepting the title, Ennis should have rather waited for ‘Bud’.
However, Crawford also understood Ennis’ frustration. Additionally, speaking to Fight Hub TV, the former Welterweight champion of the world expressed that he once held the same position as Ennis when he waited for Errol Spence Jr.

On being asked if it was a shame for Jaron Ennis to have won the title without a fight, Crawford claimed IBF’s move was not ideal. And while he understood Ennis’ disappointment, Crawford wished ‘Boots’ rather refused the IBF belt. In his opinion, Ennis should have just settled for a different fight for the time he could not get his hands on ‘Bud’. Likewise, he bemoaned that the 26-year-old was fine with receiving a championship belt via mail.
“I know that’s not ideal. He wanted to win it. I know he’s disappointed that he could not win it from a champion. It’s disappointing for him,” said Crawford.
“If I was him I’ll just tell them I want to fight for it. Like, I would rather fight the number three guy if I couldn’t get the other guy. ‘Don’t send me a belt in the mail.’ But, it just seemed like everybody [is] cool with being email champions now,” he added. In this context, before moving on, Crawford also stated he understood Ennis’ frustration as the latter had to wait.

Although Crawford was now somewhat upset, he explained that he once occupied the same position as Ennis. Before the Errol Spence Jr. bout in July this year, Crawford waited for a considerable length of time to lay his hands on the belts. Likewise, he understood how frustrated Ennis must have been when Crawford prioritized his rematch against ‘The Truth’ over the mandatory title defense.

“He waited a long time. I can’t knock him because I was in that position once before, waiting my time trying to fight Spence. Trying to get these big opportunities, get these guys in the ring with me. I understand his frustration,” said Crawford. “I know it’s frustrating that he can’t get those fights but it’s part of the game,” he explained.
