“That Slap Was Personal”: Fans in Frenzy as Caleb Plant and Jermall Charlo Get Into a Physical Altercation at Spence vs. Crawford Weigh-Ins

It is a fight that took five years to come through. The Terence Crawford–Errol Spence Jr. fight is a couple of hours away. Perhaps the pressure has been too much for the archrivals to let off some steam at the final press conference. Known for his controlled demeanor, Crawford couldn’t help himself going at some of Spence Jr.’s team members. But unfortunately for the duo, Caleb Plant stole the show as the drama’s climax culminated outside at their weigh-in. Acting out the showstopper, he took a pop at Jermall Charlo. Fans couldn’t have asked for more.

It remains unclear what piqued ‘Sweethands’ so much that he had to attack the Middleweight champion. Michael Benson shared the report on Instagram, “‼️ Caleb Plant HITS Jermall Charlo in an altercation backstage at the Errol Spence vs Terence Crawford weigh-in…” Ever since, a barrage of comments has been flowing in, with viewers sharing their thoughts on the incident.

Gasper believes that Caleb Plant’s attack focused on Jermall Charlo. Hence the possibility of ‘Sweethands’ and the ‘Hitman’ line-up remains potent. He said, “Plant v Charlo has to be next that slap was personal 😭😭.” But then, flustered by his inability to duck an incoming slap, Fabian seems to doubt whether Jermall Charlo is the one who faces ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in September, “Is this the [m***********r] that’s going to fight Canelo? 🤣 Can even dode a f*****g slap🤣.“

Lol.” However, a different set of thoughts soon lined up. James Kentopp wonders what got into Caleb Plant’s head to rile him up to such an extent. It will be the second instance of the Tennessean involved in a public altercation. During their press conference, he and ‘Canelo’ Alvarez fought two years ago. Kentopp said, “Holy shit, first the Canelo slap, now this 😐, wonder what got him so heated.“

Finally, a word of appreciation for Jermall Charlo. Alfred K Appiah admired the champion for not losing his composure. The absence of any chaos that usually follows such an instance stuns the user. He said, “Jarmall Charlo showed remarkable restraint. I am surprised all hell didn’t break loose. It was quickly shut down.”

It’s been more than two years since the thirty-three-year-old Jermall Charlo fought. Hence excitement grew with the news of him taking on ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in the return fight. However, as it turned out, his twin Jermell Charlo, the undisputed Light Middleweight, will do the honors, climbing two divisions to meet the Mexican superstar on September 30. As far as Plant is concerned, since losing his IBF Super Middleweight title to Alvarez, he lost his latest attempt at the WBC (Interim) to David Benavidez in March.
