Ryan Garcia was set to face Rolando Romero. But fate had other plans. A deal with Devin Haney emerged instead. Now, Garcia and Haney are slated for April 20, battling for the WBC lightweight title. Amidst this backdrop, Isaac Cruz delivered a stunning knockout to Romero. The victory sent shockwaves through the boxing world.

Garcia’s response? A bold claim on social media. He believes he can easily defeat Cruz. But Claressa Shields warns him, suggesting a mismatch of styles. Can Garcia really dominate both Haney and Cruz? Or is Shields’ cautionary advice a harbinger of challenges ahead?

Isaac ‘Pitbull’ Cruz unleashed a relentless attack on Rolando Romero, the man Garcia was originally supposed to face.  Cruz’s pressure proved too much for Romero. Left hooks and overhand rights rained down, culminating in a devastating right uppercut that sent Romero wobbling in the eighth round. The referee had seen enough, waving the fight off and crowning Cruz the new WBA junior welterweight champion.

News of Cruz’s victory traveled fast, reaching none other than Ryan Garcia. Taking to Twitter, Garcia, preparing for the fight against Haney, declared his intentions for the future. In a bold statement, he said: “I would sleep Cruz you guys are delusional after I ko Haney I would gladly handle him easy.”

However, his confidence was met with a surprising counterpunch, not from the ring, but from fellow boxing champion Claressa Shields. Shields responded with a short but impactful message: “Styles make fights… don’t fight Pitbull.” Claressa isn’t the only one warning Ryan Garcia about his moves. Former Haney opponent warned Ryan about Devin’s chin.

Linares reflects on Haney’s move to 140

Devin Haney’s upcoming bout with Ryan Garcia has tongues wagging, with many wondering if Garcia can exploit any weaknesses in Haney’s defense. Offering some insight is Jorge Linares, who took Haney the distance in a close fight back in 2021. Discussing Haney’s move to the 140-pound division, Linares suggested it was a smart decision: “I think he made the best decision in his life [by moving] to 140,” he told Fight Hype.

Linares also weighed in on Haney’s chin, an aspect that came into question during their fight. “I think he [has a] good chin,” Linares admitted. However, he hinted that Haney’s lighter weight at the time might have played a role. “At that moment with me, [he got wobbled] because he [lost] too much weight,” Linares explained. Now that Haney is competing at 140, Linares suggests things might be different: “Now when he moved to 140, you see his body is different. I think his chin is different too, so we’ll see.”
