The backdrop to this clash involves Devin Haney, the former undisputed lightweight champion, who opted to pursue the super lightweight title at 135 pounds against Regis Prograis this December.

Stevenson, a rising star, aims for his second weight class title. He has previously claimed titles in featherweight and super featherweight categories. This adds an extra layer of anticipation to this upcoming showdown.

Earlier, he made waves by knocking out Jose Valenzuela on September 4 the previous year, during the Isaac Cruz–Edward Ramirez event. Notably, his only defeat came via a split decision against William Foster III. Despite this setback, he holds a slight advantage with a 70-inch (178-centimeter) reach. This upcoming fight marks his first title bout as a skilled southpaw from the Dominican Republic.
