Shakur Stevenson Vows to Punish “Everyone” While Giving Glimpse of What’s Coming on June 6

Shakur Stevenson‘s confidence in being today’s “best fighter” is strengthening with each passing day. As he prepares to quash his short-lived retirement, he lets out a warning on social media for all to note. Is this a resurgence or just a bold promise?

Earlier, it was reported that the WBC lightweight champion will compete on the 6th of June. The fight will happen at New Jersey’s Prudential Center against a yet undecided opponent. While the champion is looking hard for his next opponent, the fighter has confirmed the event by relaying the preparations he is undertaking for it.

The Monster is Awoken

On his Instagram, the 26-year-old fighter uploaded a video of him going hard at the heavy bags. Each grunt he let out complimented the intimidating message he wrote in the captions. As he claimed to be the best in the sport, he warned everyone of the beast they’ve woken up.

The Newark, New Jersey native wrote, “July 6th I’m back and they woke a monster up.. I’m the best fighter in the sport take it how u wanna Everyone gets punished from here on out see yall then.” His July fight comes at an interesting juncture. It will be his second shot at a career that he had earlier announced retirement from.

After his controversial win over Edwin De Los Santos in November last year, his hopes to fight Emanuel Navarette fell apart. The Mexican fighter decided to face off against Denys Berinchyk for the vacant WBO title. Having lost his opportunity to bag the belt, ‘Sugar’ announced his retirement. However, within a few weeks, he came out to declare that he’d “fight any and everybody.”

Speculated names for his next opponent include the likes of William Zepeda, Kid Austin, and Raymond Muratalla. Though on the surface, the significance of this fight might seem limited to the opponent, for him, it holds deeper meaning. He views this bout as his entry into the “second stage” of his career.

Earlier today, the southpaw took to his X, to express the importance of his upcoming fight. While he accepted to have lacked discipline in the first half of his career, he explained that the July fight would be his second coming. He remarked, “Had no discipline for the first half of my career and done a lot of amazing things off of being talented we are now entering the 2nd stage of my career where I dedicate my life to this like I been supposed to do.. July 6th will be Movie.”

In the last few months, it seems like the fighter has been under extreme pressure to widen his grasp over the lightweight division. It will be interesting to see whom he picks as an opponent to meet these expectations.
