It seems the ghosts of the past have yet to abandon Shakur Stevenson. Last year, the Newark, New Jersey-born Olympic silver medalist found himself bombarded with questions over his performance against Edwin De Los Santos. Months have passed. However, from the way it appears, a few are still unwilling to let the bout slide out of memory. Having had enough, in the latest episode, the rising superstar of boxing finally let the naysayers have a piece of his mind.

Beginning this year, the three-division champion shocked the world with a retirement announcement. Later, he started dropping enough hints, suggesting an eventual return to the ring. Quite understandably, fans are eagerly anticipating a comeback. But it seems he still has some unfinished business, managing the aftermath of the De Los Santos fight.

It all started with an innocuous tweet talking about the November 16 fight at the T-Mobile Arena. Detailing how Shakur Stevenson managed the fight, the user saw how the New Jersey-born southpaw’s jabs and lead hook confused the Dominican boxer. “Shakur vs. Edwin. DONT KNOW SHIT ABOUT BOXING. “ Shakur is runnin.” No, Shakur is controlling distance. But this is why I call Edwin a midfighter. Shakur is using only a jab & led hook, & Edwin still couldn’t figure him out,” they said.

Roughly an hour later, Stevenson joined the conversation. He said, “One hand out thinking a really good fighter on a super high level a casual will never understand.. They could hate me, but NOBODY can’t beat me, nun of them n**gas. That’s what u call “playing the hand u dealt. Now tune in next fight to see me get violent.

But a follower apparently disagreed. According to them, the De Los Santos essentially melted away Stevenson’s influence. “This was the fight that killed your clout, and you don’t even know it.” The three-division champion shot back after some time, saying that instead of seeking any attention, all he aspires for is to be the best. “Ion live for clout, my guy.. I’m just tryna be the best; y’all b**ch ass n**gas love that clout, s*it tho.

As could be expected, the post finds itself flooded with comments that fall on either side of support or naysay.

Not many details are available regarding his upcoming fight, though. Not long ago, Shakur Stevenson expressed an interest in fighting Emmanuel Navarrete. Given that the WBO super featherweight champion himself is seeking a fight in the lightweight division, the chances of the two in the near future cannot be ruled out completely.
