Not long ago, Shakur Stevenson claimed he had retired from the sport! Today, however, the undefeated boxer is contemplating a fight against rising star Floyd Schofield. Following one of the worst performances against Edwin De Los Santos, the Newark native could not, for the life of him, land an opponent.
However, Schofield thinks a fight against Shakur would propel him to the top of the division! Even though it makes more sense for him to fight Keyshawn Davis, ‘Kid Austin’ is adamant about a clash with the top brass at lightweight. “I would destroy your brother. Why go after a pawn? If you can conquer the kings of the division?… Shakur, you say no one will fight you. I challenge you to a fight at the end of the year,” Schofield said on his social media account. Lucky for him, he did not have to wait long for a response from Shakur on social media today.

Despite claiming he had retired before, the WBC lightweight champion recently announced that he would be fighting sometime in June. His opponent, however, still remains a mystery to all! Meanwhile, when a user probed Stevenson on X (formerly Twitter) about Schofield’s call out, the recently out-of-retirement boxer expressed his thoughts.
Cmon now that’s easy money for me.. If I can’t get nobody in the ring I don’t mind putting the kid in his place but let’s be real it’s levels https://t.co/AOgcFVHH0P

“C’mon now, that’s easy money for me…If I can’t get nobody in the ring, I don’t mind putting the kid in his place, but let’s be real, it’s levels,” Stevenson wrote. Though Stevenson has agreed to fight Schofield if he can’t find anyone else, this doesn’t mean the 16-0 boxer has a shortage of opponents. Not long ago, another rising star in the division spoke to Schofield’s promoter regarding a fight between them.
Floyd Schofield may fight this boxer by the end of this year!
Following a spectacular win over Jose Pedraza on 8 January in the undercard of Teofimo Lopez vs. Jamaine Ortiz, Keyshawn Davis met Oscar De La Hoya during an interview with Fight Hype. Upon the chance encounter, the head of Golden Boy Promotions immediately highlighted the online squabble between Davis and Schofield.

So, ‘The Businessman’ popped the question, “Can we make it happen?” In response, Schofield’s promoter agreed, stating, “It’s great, yeah!” However, Shakur’s brother wasn’t done! He asked, “When do you want to make it happen?” So, Oscar responded, claiming, “Should be this year!” [or by] the end of the year.”

It turns out – Floyd Schofield has the opportunity to fight both brothers! Though it makes more sense for him to take on Davis, as per his statement, he might opt to fight Shakur Stevenson. In case the fight happens, it would be a do-or-die situation for Stevenson because a second sub-par performance may just end his career. Who do you think Schofield should fight?
