Rarely do we see the big fights taking their course these days. But when they do, they are a big deal. With massive purses and payouts, they are those events in this stumbling economy that will make sure to hit the millions. The most recent one to hit this chart is the highly-watched fight between Ryan Garcia and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis. The fight will go down as one of the most watched and spoken about fights this year and for obvious reasons. However, the fight might be over, and the winner has been declared but the bout still remains to be discussed.

Ryan Garcia lost to ‘Tank’ on the 22nd of April. He suffered a seventh-round TKO against his opponent. This was the first time the then-undisputed fighter was given a taste of defeat. His record currently stands at 23-1. The loss was not taken well by Garcia. For his post-fight press conference, the young fighter was seen in attendance alone. His trainer Joe Goossen and Promoter Oscar De La Hoya, ‘Golden Boy’, were not by his side at the event.

Later, ‘The Flash KingRy’ threatened De La Hoya to find another promoter. This has led to a very controversial climate in the boxing world.
However, despite his loss, Garcia has taken a whopping amount of cash from the fight.

Not a million or two, but ten times more

The co-promotion fight between Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions and Al Haymon’s PBC was a highly viewed event. It reportedly achieved a staggering 1.2 million buys on PPV. Under such stellar sales, of course, the fighters would have gotten a massive payout. In the wake of the promoter speaking with Ariel Helwani about the fight, Garcia also took to Twitter to speak about the fight and the money he took home.

‘KingRy’ said that the event made about $100 million, and he remains extremely proud of the way the fight was promoted in the current boxing climate. He later confirmed that he received a whopping $30 million for the fight.

In the interview with Ariel, ‘Golden Boy’ Hoya discussed his fallout with Ryan Garcia. He also commented on the commitment he has towards getting the fighter the best fights that he deserved. He claimed that there were folks who were influencing Garcia to shift promoters.

Recently, it was reported that the promoter had initiated a suit against Ryan Garcia asking him to not breach the contract they have. This comes in view of ‘The Flash’ threatening to shift promoters. However, Oscar does not seem to be giving up on Garcia. He filed a lawsuit. Not for money or anything but to just remind the 24-year-old fighter to abide by the contract. In return, De La Hoya will keep up his end of the agreement and get him the best fights.

In the same interview with Ariel, De La Hoya said, “We have a lawsuit right now. I’m not suing him for money, he’s not suing me for money, I just want him to honor my contract. Just honor your contract, that’s it. You have obligations. I want you to fight, I want you to be a legend. Do you think I wanted him to fight Tank Davis with a rehydration clause? Hell no. I’m looking out for him.”
