Ryan Garcia is currently on a redemption arc. After the huge loss against Gervonta Davis, his whole life seemed to have turned around. He even fell out with his promoter Oscar De La Hoya,, however, he has yet to leave Golden Boy Promotions due to contractual obligations. Amidst the legal dispute with the six-division champion, he has started getting closer to De La Hoya’s rival Floyd Mayweather.

Ironically, Mayweather was the one who first saw the talent of Davis. Davis left the promotions back in 2022, and now Mayweather is on good terms with his rival Garcia. The two even went to run at 3 AM recently. Moreover, ‘TBE’ even counted Garcia among his top 3 contenders. Not only that, but even Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe has come out in defense of Garcia on social media.

In the world of boxing, opinions fly as fast as punches. Leonard Ellerbe, CEO of Mayweather Promotions, recently stepped up to defend Ryan Garcia amidst growing skepticism about his abilities. Criticizing Garcia, a fan claimed, “Fans don’t give a f**k who’s big or who earns the most, real fans want to see Tank fight a top fighter, something he’s never really done”.

In response, Ellerbe claimed, “Ryan Garcia is a top fighter, since the outcome wasn’t what most wanted, now he’s not a top fighter, GTFOH some of you guys are really weird lol.” He pointed out the nature of the boxing community to just count a fighter out once he loses a fight. Such has been the case for Shakur Stevenson, Garcia, and Errol Spence Jr., etc.

Ellerbe dismantles claims against Garcia

In response to Ellerbe’s claims, a user expressed concerns about Garcia’s unconventional boxing journey. He pointed out how many people have been criticizing Garcia even prior to the fight as “Ryan didn’t follow the normal boxing progression stages for someone of his caliber”. He even claimed that there was no way for Garcia to defeat Davis though he did acknowledge the event’s effect on boxing overall.

Ellerbe swiftly responded, defending Garcia’s reputation: “To say Ryan is not a top fighter is bs. He lost to Tank so what, he’s still a very good fighter.”

Another fan pointed out Garcia’s fights at catchweight and certain contractual terms. However, Ellerbe dismissed the comment as mere attention-seeking, stating, “Just ignore that troll, he jus looking for some clout. Nobody of consequence listens to him.”
