As much as boxing is a sport of strength, endurance, and skills, it’s also a game of chess! Choosing the right opponent at the right time is imperative for a boxer’s success in the ring. In a similar situation, Rolly Romaro chose to fight Isaac Cruz instead of Ryan Garcia, whom Romero was supposed to fight initially in his next bout. Off late, the WBA super lightweight champ claimed a fight against ‘Pitbull’ Cruz is much more difficult than Garcia.

Given the fact that ‘King Ry’ just has one loss on his record coming from Gervonta Davis, and Cruz has two with a similar number of fights, it’s hard to determine who the better fighter is. However, Romero seems to have figured it out, as he explained how Cruz is a harder fight than Garcia in an interview today!

Speaking to Elie Seckbach from ES News, Romero didn’t waste time naming Cruz the harder challenger. “I decided to go with ‘Pitbull’ Cruz, a much more difficult fight. A much more durable fighter and a much more dangerous fighter,” Romero said. When probed further by Seckbach about why Romero thinks that is the case, the 28-year-old boxer highlighted what Cruz could do!

“‘Pitbull’ Cruz will just come and swing – he is a much more difficult fight than Ryan,” said Romero. When asked if he thought Ryan would have been easier to deal with in the ring, Romero nodded in agreement. “I think so. Well, like I said, it just takes more high on my end. So, [it just shows] that I went after a harder fight in reality,” said Romero. While Romero claims the Cruz fight is harder, Garcia seemed awfully disappointed to miss a shot at Romero.

Ryan Garcia reacts to Rolly vs. Cruz

After ditching Devin Haney for Rolly Romero in a fight that was being eyed for April 20, Garcia was sure about the fight being made. However, at the end of the day, Romero instead announced the fight against Cruz scheduled for March 30. The announcement was a surprise to the Victorville native as he turned to X, expressing his thoughts on the matter.

“Look, I was informed the deal was [finalized], and it would be announced in the coming days. Obviously, that was a lie,” Garcia wrote. He further added that he has been trying to be honest with his followers and wouldn’t say anything until his next fight deal was signed. “I’m not going to say anything until it’s actually signed and delivered, I still look forward to putting on a big PPV for Dazn Boxing,” Garcia wrote.
