‘If it makes dollars it makes sense,’ is the motto of prizefighting. Luis Alberto, IBF featherweight champion is set to face Joet Gonzalez on September 15. However, he is already looking past his next fight and weighed in on his potential opponent. Robeisy Ramirez is the WBO featherweight champion in the sport currently. He boasts a record of 13 victories with one defeat. However, Alberto does not foresee a fight with him.

Ahead of his fight, in an interview, the 30-year-old welcomed a fight with Naoya Inoue at featherweight. Simultaneously, he disregarded a fight with Ramirez. Why did Alberto disregard a fight with Ramirez?

Alberto is not in the sport just to compete but to also have the most lucrative bouts out there. In a recent interview, the champion’s manager acknowledged that Ramirez is a credible boxer but a fight with him is not a big blockbuster event. According to Boxing Scene, his manager stated, “Robeisy (Ramirez) is good but can’t sell.” 

That being said, his team has already planned someone more appropriate for them. In the same interview, he revealed that they are considering a fight against Naoya Inoue. The Japanese boxer has burst into the scene and recently legitimized himself after defeating Stephen Fulton for the title via a devastating knockout. He stated, “We would love to welcome Inoue to the featherweight division after Joet Gonzalez,” He added, “We know that’s the fight we want.”

Inoue is becoming a massive name in the sport. Needless to say, a bout between the two would be a spectacle. However, this recent revelation did not sit well with the WBO featherweight champion

Ramirez lashes out at Alberto after disregarding a fight with him

On Twitter, Ramirez revealed that Alberto is dodging him and has resorted to a “lame excuse”. At the same time, he confessed that he did not expect such comments from the champion. He stated, “Wasn’t expecting such a lame excuse from a champion! You know I’m the best featherweight in the world and I’ll fight anyone”
