On this Tuesday, the former assistant coach of the Ohio State Women’s Basketball team, Mark Mitchell passed away at the age of 56. With his contribution, the Buckeyes won several Big Ten Conference regular season titles. In addition, he helped the team qualify for the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Tournament four times as a coach. Lately, he coached the Men’s Basketball team at Wilberforce University.

Undoubtedly, the father of Ohio State’s all-time leading scorer, Kelsey Mitchell, impacted several lives. While a cause of death has yet to be reported, several figures took to social media to express their thoughts and prayers for beloved coach Mark Mitchell and his family. The official account of the Ohio State’s Women’s Basketball, a team which Mark Mitchell had formerly coached, informed they were devasted to hear about assistant coach Mitchell’s passing. On the other hand, head coach Kevin McGuff who had spent five seasons with coach Mitchell, recounted that the latter was “extremely dedicated to his family, friends and players“. Additionally, McGuff extended his support to Mitchell’s family. In this connection, Adrien Broner echoed McGuff and Ohio State.

Taking to one of his Instagram stories, Broner wrote, “Sorry for your loss lil sis @kelz_hoop [Kelly Mitchell].” Likewise, several people took to X and prayed for Coach Mitchell and Kelsey. Taking to X, one said, “Thoughts and prayers for the Mitchell family.”
