In just a few days, the fans will finally get to witness one of the biggest events of influencer boxing in a while. On October 14th, KSI and Tommy Fury will go toe-to-toe in the upcoming Misfits Boxing and DAZN pay-per-view event. The fight will be held in Manchester Arena in Manchester, England. The hype for the event is huge and this would probably be the first time in history, where an undercard fight is garnering more attention than the main card. The fight in question is the one between Dillon Danis and Logan Paul. After the whole Twitter fiasco, fans are surely riled up to see those two go face to face.

With such interest, the event is well on its way to becoming a success. Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn is of the opinion that DAZN’s revenue model will push the PPV sales for the event to an astonishing 1 million in the UK. Recently in an interview with Seconds Out, Hearn shared his insights on the current state of boxing both in the USA and the UK. He discussed DAZN’s PPV model and how it affects the business side of boxing.

He stated, “They say the main reason that the PPV model was introduced with DAZN was that they could bring those big fights to DAZN.” Furthermore, he added, “If you want AJ on your platform, you need that functionality.” Speaking on the match-up, he said, “KSI against Tommy Fury is a good example. I know it’s not necessarily our cup of tea. But it’s massive, massive! Could do a million buys on DAZN.”

Fans remain ambivalent regarding the outcome

As Hearn’s bold PPV predictions for the KSI vs. Tommy Fury headliner surfaced on social media, it quickly garnered attention from the fans. Many appeared incredulous at the over-the-top figure presented by Matchroom’s chairman. One fan mockingly remarked that none of the huge fights on DAZN are Matchroom events. He wrote, “All the biggest fights on DAZN this year are non-Matchroom shows”.

Another fan shared his agreement with Hearn’s statement, writing, “It will break the record.” He pointed out how just the face-to-face garnered millions of views on YouTube.

Meanwhile, a fan claimed that the price for the PPV would be high in order for sales to reach such a huge number. He stated, “Yeh it’ll be 20 pounds so it could definitely get 1m”.

Someone else pointed out that both the fights between KSI and Logan Paul “did over 3 million combined so I wouldn’t be surprised.”

However, one fan stated that claiming the sales would reach a million would be overestimating it a bit, writing, “A million is pushing it”.

Another fan jumped in and took a shot at the promoter, claiming, “And he’s got absolutely nothing to do with it.”

Overall fans don’t believe that the event will be able to reach such a huge number of PPV sales despite the hype surrounding it. Only time will reveal how his predictions end up. It is only a matter of days before the result will be out for all to see. In the meantime, what do you think about Hearn’s statement? Do you think the PPV sales will reach such a figure?
