Gervonta Davis means money. After setting 2023 on fire with his record-shattering fight against Ryan Garcia, he is on the lookout. The American boxer has managed to rake in millions amid long stretches of inactivity. However, after seizing the headlines for embracing Islam, the fans can expect him to grace the boxing ring in 2024. The list of potential rivals is long, but there are three who can put on a ludicrous money event. Who could they be?

Since ‘The Tank’ and ‘KingRy’ sold 1.1 million PPVs and collected 22.8 million, there’s barely any other boxing event has crossed the million mark. In addition, their event edged past Floyd Mayweather vs. Canelo Álvarez as the fifth-highest gate in Las Vegas history. Replicating similar numbers would be an uphill task, but not if Davis inks a deal with his old rival, Devin Haney.

A long-coveted fight: Gervonta Davis vs. Devin Haney

Devin Haney held all the straps when he reigned at 135 pounds, and Gervonta Davis had to content himself with the WBA regular champion tag. Both currently hold superstar status in the boxing world, and a match between them will be an exciting showdown between contrasting styles. While Haney is a technically gifted boxer, Davis knows how to pierce through defenses with his brute power.

However, ‘The Dream’ has moved up to 140 and is currently in negotiations for a fight with Ryan Garcia. He wants to embrace the PPV star persona, and defeating Garcia will nudge him toward that ambition. This works in Davis’ favor, as Haney is a clear favorite going into that fight, and a win will surely uplift Haney’s stature.

The Baltimore native has fought once at 140, and he could comfortably set up a fight at catchweight with Haney and no titles on the line. Their fight has every ingredient to make it the fight of the year and a lucrative event for promoters to generate millions. Despite that, Haney might again relinquish and move up. Davis then doesn’t need to look beyond his division and, in particular, Shakur Stevenson.

The practical PPV blockbuster for 2024 in Shakur Stevenson

Shakur Stevenson holds the other strap in lightweight besides Gervonta Davis, while the IBF and WBO titles lay vacant. A champion vs. champion fight holds allure, especially when both of them are undefeated at 21-0 and 29-0, respectively.

Davis vs. Stevenson is sure to grab the eyeballs of fans, as the fight is the epitome of menace vs. method. Fans will willingly shell out money to pay and witness the action up close. The fight will also decide the future of the 135-pound division, as it might set up either of the two on an undisputed champion course.

It will eventually boil down to the cooperation between Stevenson’s Top Rank and Davis’ PBC, as both promotions will chalk out their cash cow’s future. The fans expect the best in the division to meet in the square circle, and this super fight will move the needle in 2024 if it materializes.

Gervonta Davis vs. Terence Crawford: A dream wildcard fight

A wildcard indeed. This hypothetical fight captured fans’ imaginations when Davis disclosed a bold prediction of knocking out Terence Crawford. ‘Bud’ instantly offered a fight to Davis, and since then, murmurs of a probable fight have only gained traction.

While Davis is in his prime, Crawford is in his twilight years. The shine of belts doesn’t appeal to Crawford anymore. He wants to set his legacy in stone, and the Davis fight not only offers him a shot at greatness but also money. Further, fans are still determining when Crawford will hang up his gloves, and therefore, they won’t let go of any opportunity to cherish his last fights of his career in the boxing ring.

Crawford’s last bout with Errol Spence Jr. sold around 700,000 PPVs, and if he picks up a fight with Davis next, he will indeed surpass that figure. Whoever Davis picks among these, he will surely put on a spectacularly successful event.
