Floyd Mayweather is a name synonymous with boxing prowess. Leading an undefeated legacy, ‘Pretty Boy’ left no leaf unturned to prove his mettle. However, he raised eyebrows with his past blatant claims that have recently resurfaced. This is in regards to him drawing parallels with the legendary Muhammad Ali. It is known that ‘Money’ defeated top fighters like Oscar De La Hoya,  Canelo Alvarez, and Manny Pacquiao. However, critics say he chose easy opponents.

On the other hand, Ali ruled with an iron fist in a challenging era of heavyweight boxing. He beat legends like Sonny Liston and George Foreman. Fans say Ali fought opponents at their peak. Even the youngest heavyweight champion, Mike Tyson, called Mayweather “delusional” for considering himself greater than Ali. Floyd Mayweather made a bold statement about being better than Ali in an interview some time ago. However, there’s more meat to this saga. But one thing is sure: fans have discarded Mayweather’s theory.

Why does Floyd Mayweather think he’s better than legendary Muhammad Ali?

In an interview, Floyd said that Ali was beaten by Leon Spinks who had seven fights under his belt at that time. He stated,“Leon Spinks beat Muhammad Ali when he only had seven fights. We’re just telling the truth.” However, in the recently resurfaced post, we see Mayweather defending his stance against legendary Ali. He said, “I have to take my hat off to Ali, but I didn’t give this sport 40 years to say that there’s another fighter better than me.” 

Then, fans were quick to dismiss Mayweather’s claim. A fan stated, “When you think and believe your the Greatest, people will question your greatness and there will be more better than you. Its only time that will trully determine someones’ greatness and no one will ever can be declared as the greatest but God Almighty!”

Next, another fan added his reasons why he thinks Ali is better. The fan opined, “Ali is a better boxer and is more handsome and articulate!”

Furthermore, a follower claimed that Mayweather is bragging. The follower said, “You, boastfulman, believe in yourself alone.”

Then, a user pointed out that self-claim is redundant. He added that the public should decide who’s better. The user said, “Claiming your self a better fighter hahaha let the people say that not you cause people knows who’s the better fighter.”

Moreover, a fan had a peculiar analogy. The fan said, “Manny Pacquiao is the most exciting fighter on the planet. Floyd is a runner.”

Floyd Mayweather claimed he’s better than Muhammad Ali. He cited Ali’s loss to a less experienced fighter as evidence. However, fans disagree with him. They praised Ali’s challenging fights and charisma. The debate continues, but for certain boxing fans: Ali reigns supreme in their eyes.
