Anthony Joshua has cleared the air on his dating life. The heavyweight boxer has finally spoken out about the rumors regarding his linkup with leading international models. The update comes after his fans have perpetually bombarded the boxer on his relationship status. While his silence on this matter kept them on their toes, now the revelation has sparked some serious frenzy.

The declaration comes as he remains busy figuring out the details of his next fight, which, according to his promoter, Eddie Hearn can happen anytime in February or March next year. While discussions on his much anticipated Deontay Wilder fight continue, the promoter has relentlessly been pushing for a clash against the boxing newbie, Francis Ngannou. While we await more clarifications on this front, the boxer has come out to clarify the developments in one sphere of his life- his dating life.

In a recent BBC interview, commentator Louis Theroux asked AJ if he had a girlfriend. In response came an answer that might have excited an entire section of his fans. He replied, “No, I don’t.” When probed further in this regard, the boxer joked, “Yeah, definitely. Imagine me going home to my missus now and she said, ‘You denied me!’. I don’t want the stress.”

Then came the most important question, which he answered with a poised silence. Until now! When asked about his linkup rumors with leading models like Cara Delevigne and Bella Hadid, he said plainly, “I haven’t been with any of those girls by the way.”

Joshua was in a relationship with his school friend, Nicole Osbourne, with whom the boxer has a son named JJ. He further went on to detail how he meets girls. He said, “I’ve had girlfriends. It could be in the local supermarket, or at the petrol station, could be anywhere.” As a celebrity of his stature, and being of his age and attractive in the most obvious senses, AJ has always been questioned about his dating life. However, he’s kept that part of his life shrouded and away from the public eye. But deep down, he’s a traditional guy, who lives with his mum and believes that his future wife will not just marry him, but into his family.

He commented, “Why am I going to move out and leave my mum by herself, for some girl? Family is the most important thing. When a girl gets with me, she ain’t just marrying me, she’s marrying my family.” On the career front, talks have emerged that the boxer could potentially face off against ‘The Gypsy King.’

He’d defeat Tyson Fury, says AJ

While Theroux did effectively probe AJ about his dating life, he went ahead with his next agenda. A line of questioning into his possible fight with WBC heavyweight champion, Tyson Fury. The Watford-origin fighter started the conversation by suggesting that if the two were to fight each other, he would dominate the fight. The conversation mirrored the long-standing expectation that the two would one day enter the ring against each other. However, over the years, there have been no affirmations on this subject.

Is he friendly with the Gypsy King, further asked Theroux. “No, not really, but I respect what’s he done [in boxing],” answered the boxer. Then, in his signature dry humor, the interviewer proceeds to mimic Fury and invoke the things he’s aimed at AJ in passing. After having a brief laugh, he suggested that if a fight between the two is indeed outlined, bookies would see Joshua as the underdog. But that does not faze the fighter. He explains, “It’s good. It gives me a bit more [oomph], you know? It’s a challenge – but one I’ll be up for.”

Meanwhile, Tyson Fury remains embroiled in conversations with the Heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk for their impending clash. A contract for the fight has been established, however, the date for it seems unclear. After his split decision victory over Ngannou, his promoter Frank Warren suggested that he would need some to prepare for the historic unification of titles fight against Usyk. A fight between AJ and Fury could only take its course once this fight gets through.
