Sunny Edwards got handed his first-ever defeat. The former champion was dethroned by Jesse Rodriguez and failed to become the undisputed world champion. The defeat was quite devastating, to say the least. The 27-year-old was stopped by a corner retirement in the ninth round. Not only that, the beating he suffered inside the rind left his face and eyes badly injured. While he is busy recuperating, another fighter is already on his radar.
However, despite his recent defeat to Bam Rodriguez, the boxer is no short of confidence and shows unwavering spirit as he calls out an 11X world champion for a showdown. Who does he call out and what does he have to say? Let’s find that out.

In a recent turn of events, Edwards has called out none other than Román González. The Nicaraguan professional boxer is a world champion with titles in four different weight classes to his credit. Despite these accolades, Edwards did not shy away from calling ‘Chocolatito’ out in a recent interview and claimed that the two have discussed the possibility of a fight. “If Roman Gonzalez comes. I messaged him. He put like a message on Twitter, and I said, look, you call the shots. If you still want to fight me next. Let’s go. There isn’t a part of me that has fallen off in the ring, trust me,” stated Edwards.
He went on to add, “If anything I have gotten forward because I know what I did with how much I was going through. No one else does. No one else was in my mind.” His response to the defeat and overall outlook has been laudable. Safe to say, he has been a champion inside and outside the ring. His persistent attitude was evident when, after his defeat, he gave an interview with bloodied eyes and swollen face, and still managed to commend his opponent’s better performance.
Edwards reflects on his loss
According to Edwards, there are no excuses for his first defeat. If anything, he applauded, ‘Bam’ for being adaptable and putting on a formidable performance to get the win. In addition, He unveiled that he did not foresee him losing. Reflecting along these lines, he stated, “Credit to Bam and his team, I think it’s a great performance. So a little bit, it’s unfortunate on my side for how things happened when they happened. But, you know the best fighters adapt and you know Bam came away on the win tonight.”
