It would be sheer wishful thinking that Bill Haney and Calvin Ford will stay aloof, as the former’s son and the latter’s charge wage their battle. For consolation, the fray is taking place in the social media arena instead of the ring.
The two world champions have yet to cross paths professionally. The latest storm took off as the Devin Haney–Regis Prograis fight made its way to the ring. Both ‘The Dream’ and Bill Haney called out Gervonta Davis during the press conference. They weren’t particularly happy over his comments about the Haney-Prograis fight selling out to capacity. Later, after his son clinically dismantled ‘Rougarou’, an upbeat Haney senior has been talking about the options that lie in front of his son.

Calvin Ford seemed pretty clear about not having any conversation with Bill Haney when he appeared in ‘Black and Brown Boxing.’ He said, “I only won’t to talk to that dude, yo. I really don’t. I’m gonna keep it real with you. I ain’t got no words for him.”
The host highlighted that Haney senior was there at the other end of the line. The latter jumped in and reasoned. Probably Coach Ford doesn’t want to talk since his son would knock the daylights out of his star pupil. Bill Haney said, “Cause my son, hey, listen, cause my son knock that ni**er out, cause my son would knock Tank the f**k out, that’s why you don’t want no words for me.”
A heated back and forth commenced, with the host trying to simmer it down. He asked Calvin Ford whether Devin Haney had a shot against Gervonta Davis after a tentative Ryan Garcia or Vasyl Lomachenko business. The lightweight champion’s coach replied that they would check out the possibilities and see how it worked out. But Bill Haney would have none of it. Instead of dilly-dallying, Ford should confirm whether the Haney-Davis fight will take place next or not. He said, “No, ain’t no figuring; is that what’s happening next?”
During the post-Rougarou-fight presser, Devin Haney and his father slammed Gervonta Davis for avoiding a fight. The Haney’s were unsparing in their criticism of the lightweight champion. Especially in light of the Baltimorean’s recent comments over the sold-out bout at the Chase Center. Bill Haney said, “You know you don’t; you don’t have to down the other fighter to um to validate what you are and what you bring to the table uh Tank um and his team have consistently lied to the people that created this narrative…”
Devin Haney reigned as the undisputed lightweight champion and Gervonta Davis as the WBA belt holder in the division. However, the two boxers never went against each other. An odd sparring session between the two world champions still manages to flutter the boxing community. Supporters from either side reportedly claim victory.
Possibilities galore for Devin Haney as ‘Tank’ lies in waiting

Beginning this year, after the title defense against Hector Garcia, ‘Tank’ went after Ryan Garcia for a non-title bout. At the opposite corner, after a second title defense from Vasyl Lomachenko, ‘The Dream’ vacated his WBC belt to chase Regis Prograis.
Given the line-up it has, the 140-pound division has become the new glamor division of boxing. Thus, possibilities abound for young Devin Haney. Otherwise, he could always move up a division. However, a fight with one of the ‘faces of boxing’ is something every die-hard fan would kill for. It remains to be seen whether ‘The Dream’ would be happy to go back to 135 pounds, or ‘Tank’ will climb up to 140 pounds.
