On May 2nd, 2015, the sport of boxing peaked. MGM Grand Garden Arena in Paradise, Nevada, saw a fight that earned more money in terms of pay-per-view than any fight to date. Floyd Mayweather entered the ring against Filipino fighter, Manny Pacquiao in a bid to defend his super-welterweight title. And so he did. While Mayweather registered a unanimous decision win against Pacquiao, their fight generated around $600 Million in revenue.
The fight in all its glory saw two of the biggest fighters clash inside the ring. Both fighters had established quite a reputation as boxing’s finest and were fated to meet each other inside the ring. And, to add to that, both of them had troubled backgrounds, lending their stories to the crafting of a grand boxing narrative. While Mayweather navigated through his family’s history of violence, Pacquiao came from a family that was destitute. Their records speak for themselves, however, if one were to pick between the two, who would you choose? Interestingly, characters from a popular Netflix series have given their answers.
