Finally, after seven months, Shakur Stevenson will fight his second match in the Lightweight division. The Newark-born Southpaw is set to face Dominican Edwin De Los Santos on November 16 at the T Mobile Arena for the vacant WBC Lightweight title. The contest comes after talks for two matches caved in early. First, he refused to budge from his stand on accepting Devin Haney‘s deal. Then, later, Frank Martin, another upcoming prospect in the weight class who was reportedly unhappy with the offer, backed out.

Devin Haney’s move to Light Welterweight leaves Stevenson behind alongside one of the biggest names in modern-day boxing, Gervonta Davis. The WBA (Regular) Champion remains a force to be reckoned with. So, where does Davis stand in his eyes? As he spoke with the media, Stevenson seemed to acknowledge ‘Tank’ as a far superior fighter than the one who left to chase his dream of becoming a title holder and probably, after that, an undisputed champion in another division.

Shakur Stevenson goes for the ‘Tank’ over ‘The Dream’

So, @AccordToBoxing shared a post early today. The message read that Shakur Stevenson rates Gervonta Davis way ahead of the pack. Apart from him, the best fighter in the Lightweight division was Davis. Either way, he considers the Baltimorean a much better fighter than Devin Haney. The footage attached to the tweet shows FightHubTV‘s Marcus Viegas interviewing Stevenson.

Stevenson says that when it all boils down, two of the best boxers in the world are in the Lightweight division. So when Viegas asked, “

Who are those two? You and who else?” the former Featherweight champion replied, “Tank.” The host continued to probe the question. If Devin Haney returned to the division, how would Stevenson rate him? ‘Sugar’ replied, “I mean, Tank is clearly a better fighter than him.

But is there a chance of Shakur Stevenson, in the event of winning the November fight, clashing with Gervonta Davis as a move towards title unification?

Future fireworks?

The answer to that query probably lies in his response while speaking on a podcast. ‘Sugar’ stated that a battle between the two could be in the offing. He said, “

There’s only one fight. Me and Tank will be the biggest boxing fight in the world when it happens. I can see it happening not too far in the future. I think Tank will sign that contract, and I’m going to sign the contract, too.

But some fans may find an additional snippet interesting. In six rounds, Gervonta Davis recently claimed he could take down

Terence Crawford, Shakur Stevenson’s mentor and guide. ‘Bud,’ in turn, insisted that if ‘Tank’ wants to fight him, he has to come up to 147 pounds.

Then, while speaking at the Earn You Leisure podcast, Crawford accepted only Devin Haney as the true champion of the Lightweight division.
