The year 2023 has been strange for Canelo Alvarez. Even though he won against John Ryder, a lot of fans discredited him for not winning by a K.O. Moreover, just when the boxing world thought that he will be facing David Benavidez next after he offered an enormous amount of money to Canelo, it went nowhere. Then talks started appearing of him going against Jermall Charlo.
However, he ended up setting on a bout against Jermell Charlo, the reason for it being, ‘Hit Man’ dealing with some personal issues. So Canelo started his intense 10-week training camp back in July. As the fight draws nearer, the anticipation of the bout is increasing, with several boxing figures already sharing their own opinion on the upcoming bout. Adrien Broner has also shared his pick for the upcoming bout.

Adrien Broner hasn’t had a great relationship with Charlo so far. Back in 2018, when they both appeared on the same card, Charlo had ripped him apart claiming, “Y’all motherf***ers coming to see me fight. Ain’t nobody coming to see Adrien Broner fight. I didn’t want to be on that f***ing card.”
Even recently, along with Terence Crawford and many others, he was of the opinion that Broner should have lost the fight against Jovanie Santiago. He wrote, “WOW WWWWWTTTTTTTTFFFFFFFF !!!!! THATS CRAZY ANOTHER BS DECISION @SHOsports.”
So one would expect ‘The Problem’ to side with Alvarez on the bout. However, in a recent interview with Fight Hub TV, Broner stood with Charlo instead. He stated, “Man I love Canelo, but I just can’t go against Charlo. Like I said, we ain’t got the best relationship in the world but I’m not going against my n***a. I can’t, I’m not doing it. It ain’t ever gonna ever happen and I hope he win and I’m betting.”
Broner and his struggles against gambling addiction
Broner betting on Charlo seems surprising, as he has previously come out about his gambling addiction. According to the former world champion, he has been struggling against several addictions that he has been trying to get rid of. This list includes alcohol, gambling, and s*x addiction. A couple of months ago, he had posted a list of all these bad habits and referred to them as his “vices”.

Moreover, he appeared to be planning to head into recovery as he stated his intentions of looking at them like “cancer”. At the time, he took accountability for his habits and thanked his uncle and coach for helping him. He had boldly stated, “I feel like this is my last chance so F**K IT it’s time to live or die with boxing.”
