Month After Carl Weathers’ Death, Sylvester Stallone Pens “The Moral of Rocky”

Through the dark days of the Vietnam War, Muhammad Ali, Joe Frazier, George Foreman, and a few others kept the ring alive with their stunning fights. By the latter half of the 1970s, the sport had experienced a significant surge in popularity thanks to the widespread exposure it gained through a particular motion picture. In many ways, ‘Rocky’, its six installments, and boxing became synonyms. It was an alliance that endured for many years. But the best of the ‘Rocky’ legacy is the way it inspires fans to this day.

In remembrance of the movie series and its ageless message, Sylvester Stallone shared a message on Instagram a few hours ago. His words follow the sad demise of a close friend and colleague, actor Carl Weathers. The late actor had essayed the memorable role of ‘Apollo Creed’.

A Legends’ Perspective: Sylvester Stallone

Universality, perhaps, remained the greatest asset of the movie. A down-and-beaten underdog, chasing big dreams. He strives through varied challenges and setbacks and finally makes it to the top. But is that all ‘Rocky shared with the world? According to Sylvester Stallone, if looked at carefully, the movie subtly conveys one more profound message.

Many believe that winning is everything. It is the only way to define success. However, according to Stallone and a few who think likewise, there can be an alternate way to gauge accomplishments. A person can be successful even if they haven’t scaled the summit or won a medal or reward. Lest the new generation forgets the wisdom; probably that’s why ‘Sly’ wrote, “The moral of Rocky: you don’t have to win to triumph!”

Most of those who posted their comments seem to agree with the essence. One user wrote, “One of the most positive life-affirming movies; then again, so are all the Rocky movies.” Another said, “You just gotta keep moving forward. No matter how many times you get knocked down. Just like you always said.”

Last month, the Hollywood legend paid a tearful tribute to longtime friend Carl Weathers, who passed away on February 1.

Fond Memories

About his friend, Sylvester Stallone said, “Carl Weathers was such an integral part of my life, my success—everything about it, I give him incredible credit and kudos.” Heartbroken, the screen legend, through a video, poured his heart out, sharing how much Carl Weathers meant to him.

The former NFL linebacker played the role of ‘Rocky Balboa’s archrival, ‘Apollo Creed’ to the hilt. For his portrayal, Weathers received widespread acclaim across the cinematic world. Later, he went on to act in notable movies such as ‘Predator’, and ‘Happy Gilmore’.

In 2006, the last edition of the ‘Rocky’ franchise came. Like the prequels, ‘Rocky Balboa’ also carried a powerful message about life: how to carry on despite the tide turning its head on you.
