Natasha Jonas is enjoying the fruits of labor after winning the fight last Saturday night. However, Mikaela Mayer, her opponent – not so much! The duo put on an all-action show in Jonas’ hometown at Liverpool’s M&S Bank Arena. However, in a recent twist, the former unified super featherweight champion has issued a statement on X, demanding a rematch.

While the 39-year-old boxer managed to pull off the win, it wasn’t as clean as she would have desired, as she won a hairline split decision victory. It was Mayer’s debut fight in the welterweight division in an attempt to become a two-division champion by stealing Jonas’ IBF welterweight title. Since Mayer failed to do so, she reasonably wanted a second chance.

Hardly a couple of days after the judges scored the fight 96-94, 96-95 to Jonas, the California native claimed, “It’s highly frustrating to leave empty-handed when I felt I did more than enough to solidify a win on Saturday.” She expressed gratitude for all the support she received in believing she deserved the win.

However, the 33-year-old is hoping “Natasha feels the pressure and does what a stand-up Champion would do in this situation…and that’s agree to a rematch.” Mayer goes on to suggest she, as well as the fans, deserve a rematch; more importantly, she thinks Jonas’ legacy depends on it. She finished her statement, adding, “I know I’m a threat to the Welterweight division and promise to give you more great fights.” While Mayer demanded a rematch, here’s what Jonas had to say about Mayer after the fight.

Natasha Jonas on Mayer’s loss

After the Londoner won the fight and spoke to a Sky Sports representative, she reflected on the fight and expressed kind words for her vanquished opponent. “It takes two to tango. I know this girl here, Mikaela Mayer, is gonna be devastated with the result,” Jonas said. However, Jonas urged the former unified champion to take the loss on the chin.

“She is in the top two people who I have fought. She is a very skilled operator. Her time will come again. She [has] beat[en] a lot of the champions that are already here. So, please use this as motivation to get the title you deserve and become a two-weight champion,” said Jonas. However, a rematch with Mayer may not be in the cards, as Jonas claimed it’s her last year in boxing later in the interview.
