Come October 28th, one of the most expensive fights of this year will take its course in Saudi Arabia. WBC heavyweight world champion, Tyson Fury will clash against Cameroonian fighter, Francis Ngannou. The fight will mark the latter’s maiden fight in the boxing realm after he concluded his years-long stint with the UFC.
He decided it was time for him to move on from the UFC after his relationship with its president, Dana White deteriorated. The organization has stringent rules when it comes to allowing its fighters to venture outside the sport. Speaking about the significance of the money he receives from this, The Predator said, “It (the money from the Fury bout) means a lot to me. It’s a lot to process, looking at where I started to where I am today. Where we are today in regards to my family too. It really does mean a lot to me and my biggest joy is to look at my family.” The fight indeed is a massive revenue generator for the two fighters.
A massive cheque for Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury
Tyson Fury has come under fire for taking up this fight against Ngannou. As the fighter was all set to fight against Oleksandr Usyk for a historical unification bout this December, it collapsed owing to Fury not being okay with the purse splits. However, in the wake of it, the world wondered with whom would Fury collide to prove his boxing prowess. Landing the Ngannou fight has not gone well with his fans. It is being reported that ‘Gypsy King’ Fury will make a staggering $50 million for the fight. Ngannou on the other hand will earn more than he ever has. As per records, his last fight in the octogen got him $600,000. But the Fury fight will get him a cheque that is way beyond this threshold. And this comes directly from his opponent. Fury had earlier said, “(The purse is) private information, but let’s say it’s 10, 20, 30, f—— 50 times the amount (UFC fighters make).”
